Description Actias dubernardi

D:      Chinesischer Mondspinner
GB:    Chinese moon moth or Chinese luna moth

Aren't these guys beautiful? Sadly, only few of them made it this far and this is the biggest one by far. It's name is "Anatoll" .
I'm very much looking forward to see them growing further.

The slight bokeh contrasts with the jarring shape of the subject. Beautiful!

Wow, great photo. I like how well this green caterpillar, harmonises with the blue-lilac background. It puts the little one even more into focus. A well done photo for sure!

Sincerely

I'm guessing that it's a good camouflage and a way to make itself less tasty.

As they feed off various pinus species I'd agree with you, though the shiny seem to make them rather obvious.
Also, they sort of make a crunshy noise when touched

Noise may be used to scare birds. Shining maybe imitates the resin?
