I’ve been watching Avatar since the day it premiered in 2005 and it means the absolute world to me. The first time I saw it as an 11 year old, looking at the stunning visuals and lively characters, I immediately thought “How do they do that?? I want to be able to do that. I have to be able to do that.” And that was what made me start drawing. That was what planted this spark of inspiration in me that made me need to do art for the rest of my life. So here I am, 9 years later, pursuing art in college, faced with the end of Korra, and my love for both series has grown exponentially… to the point where I didn’t know I could invest so much of myself into any one thing. But that’s the effect of a series and a universe as momentous as Avatar. It changes your life. And I mean that.
I just….man I just want to thank Bryan Konietzko and Mike DiMartino for creating a world we can all get lost in. One that, when we finally find our way out, we are changed for the better. Thank you for characters we can relate to, see ourselves in, aspire to, and ultimately love. Thank you for nine spectacular years of Avatar.
