Description Comic #182:Β It is very easy not to extend yourself the basic love and care you would give to others. Especially if your self esteem is low! Working on being kind to myself has been an extreme challenge & I hope one day I will not roll over at the slightest confrontation when I am alone.

Ha! I've always said that if I was ever to meet myself, I'd probably sock the smug a-hole right in the yappy-hole. The guy more than has earned it. XD

But I too have gone to all sorts of silly lengths to help and cherish people around me. Even once offered to buy a person I had never met a book of an author we we're cueing for when I noticed they had no book to sign and heard they did not have money to buy it but were hoping the author might be willing to give just a signature on a piece of paper...

And then we could talk about all the stuff I've done for the one I love. But that'd make this comment a wee bit too big. XD

I mean, I don't mind myself, but I definitely love others way more than I do myself. Heck, I even times say I like to help people because it makes me feel good. That's worthy at least one slap on the head. XD

Such a wonderful sentiment, especially that last line! For me this comic hits close to home because this is actually one way I've learned to speak more kindly to myself: "If your friends were feeling this way (hopeless, doubtful, etc), what would you say to them? You wouldn't call them idiots, or failures, would you?". Developing self-esteem is a long journey, for sure. But it's less scary when you share it with people you love.

Your not alone dude, I'm sure alot of us feel the same way including myself. But sometimes the best people are the ones who may not be capable of loving themselves but capable of giving love to those around them. We arent depressing or anything like that, we're just trying to figure ourselves out.

This is so true...

I hope some day we will be able to take care of ourselves the same way we do for others... i find it hard, but I'm working on it, too.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I always thought that quote was bullshit "cant love anyone till you love yourself". I have given so much emotional support to others, always listening to them, always seeing wonderful things in other people but not able to do so for myself since I can remember, and this comic hits that.Β

Relatable, also, on the protecting others note but going quiet note...

There's an old analogy, from a culture that is not my own. It's actually from an anime, but I really think it fits.

Everyone is like a rice ball, which have different things like pickled fruit in them. We can't see what we have ourselves, in fact we may see a fraction of what we have and think that it's an imperfection, a blemish that colors our grains. Those who see all of our angles are able to see that though, can see that that's not a blemish, but a part of our filling showing through.

Here's the original analogy if you're interested.

Your comics are so endearing. You're very good at portraying emotion/expression. Have you ever thought about compiling them all into a book to sell? (or you might've already done this and I'm blind xD) Either way, such a thoughtful concept I definitely relate to.

I feel that way sometimes, that's why I always try to help those people who need it because I know how it feels.
