Indeed.Β Or to look at it from another angle, Gar's humor and optimism keeps Rae connected to other people and lets her enjoy what life offers.Β At the same time, Rae's calming influence and logical approach to life keeps Gar grounded and focused.
In the comics, her calming influence helped him mature and grow into an effective leader, while his emotional nature helped her deal with her "inner demon" (literally!) and learn how to handle emotions.
They complemented each other very nicely... once they worked out the relationship kinks (and that took a while).
