Ah, the scheme is finally revealed. Hold onto this photo, btw. I do have a short story idea for it...
Gabe, a runaway slave.
Kristen, his secret lover and the wife of his owner.
They run away together. When they are caught, she lies and says she was kidnapped. Readers don't know that right away though. The true story is revealed in his thoughts as he awaits his hanging. She is at the gallows, forced to watch by her husband. Noting her tears, Gabe's last thought is that she is the one who is the slave.
