Well, I don't play sonic games too much, but I'll try to describe the best I can.
Shadow is like a created life form. He was also stated to be the ultimate life form though. As far as who created him, I'm not sure-I think it might have been eggman, but I'm not sure.
Yeah, well now he's more of a rival/anti-hero type character. You should pick-up shadow the hedgehog for the gamecube to figure more out... if you want, that is.
