Good luck in your new home!! ^_^
The other day , a friend of mine told me he spended 30 days in Australia last year, (and most of the time he stayed in Sydney).

What gorgeous, wonderful things he told me about that city!! About that Country!
And I couldn't help but remembering you (the only australian person I talk to )

Thankies sweetpea!

I'm gald he enjoyed his stay here, Australia is a very diverse country, all sorts of climates and culture and touristy things to do.

Sydney is changing though, it's too overcrowded and the cost of living is souring rapidly so everyone who lives here is starting to get cranky!

What is your city like to visit?

Hmm. Somethng about this reminds me of the movie MirrorMask, for some reason... Can't say I really liked the movie, but it was definitely visually fascinating. Beautiful makeup, as always. If we ever meet in another life, I'll have to get you do do mine for me.

Oh, and thank you, you are most kind ...I'd love to do your make-up...this life or the next...we could even do you as your fav anime character...or not...

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-07-28 01:38:38 +0000 UTC]

Eh, like I said, I wasn't too impressed with it. It was hyped up to be this great collaboration between Neil Gaiman and the same studio that did Labyrinth, and it just seemed to be too much glamour and effects, and not enough actual decent story. But that was my take on it - I don't want to ruin it for you.

And yes, yes, if I ever get off this continent, we must meet, and I'll let you paint me up however you want. Probably not as my favorite anime charater though - they're all male!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-07-29 09:25:32 +0000 UTC]

You're on...but not as a male character...heheee...that is understandable

I'm curious, if you were to do cosplay, who would be your character of choice?

I'm not really into cosplay myself...well...I'm my own cosplay for that matter...but I have an appreciation for it when it's done well. But I guess I'd choose a traditional costume like Kikyou or something magical like Alexiel from Angel Sanctuary or an Ah My Goddess or Magic Knight Rayearth character....it's hard with the cool anime chicks 'coz they're usually half naked...and I'm too modest

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-07-31 22:04:16 +0000 UTC]

Well, I've cosplayed a couple times (not *true* cosplay... I don't try to ACT like the character, but I love to dress up), as Winry from FMA (I'm skinny and blonde... it's a logical choice, even though she's not my favorite character), and Isane Kotetsu from Bleach (the grey-haired 4th squad vice-captain... a very obscure character). I'm also working on making the outfit for Arisa Uotani from Fruits Basket, and I reallyreallyreally want to do Deidara from Naruto (yeah, even though he's a guy). Because it would just be such fun to go to a con, sit at a table and sell prints, and yell "art is a bang!!" I'm sure if I thought about it I could come up with at least a dozen more that I'd like to do if I ever had time.

Mostly, though, I love cosplay because I love making the costumes. I've been involved in medieval reenactment for a while as well (in the SCA and in a local Renaissance Faire), so I have a lot of self-made medieval garb laying around, including a full chainmail hauberk. *is a geek* There's no pride quite like strutting around in a great outfit, thinking, "Damn... I look good. And I made it myself!" For a different con last year (DragonCon, a sci-fi/fantasy con), I made and wore one of Leeloo's outfits from the movie Fifth Element (okay, okay, so I'm totally not as good-looking as Milla Yovovich [sp?], but I *am* skinny and flat-chested, so it works out), and I couldn't move five consecutive feet without getting yelled at by excited fanboys or having my picture taken. I was SOOO tired after that evening.

So yeah. I love costuming. Usually, though, the makeup part is rather lacking. I never wear makeup day-to-day, so I don't have any practice applying it. Thus, when it comes to that part of the costume, I usually give up. *sighs*

*is a geek*......man...you win the geek prize for sure...haha...you cosplayed as Leeloo!!!!!...AWESOME!!!!...gosh I sound like one of those fan-boys...but..OMFG...AWESOME!!!

No wonder you got sooo much attention...and oh so brave too...I'm waaaay tooo shy to show off that much flesh...I bet you looked amaaaazing!!...and kudos to you for making your own costumes from scratch as well...*hello...makes her own full chainmail hauberk*...herein lies the true talent...hehe

Btw...speaking of amazing costuming and sewing talent...Judy from the LotR Yahoo site I gave you does LotR and Harry Potter cosplay at all the LotR and related cons as well as this new DragonCon thingy that you mentioned...she also goes on the panel with the guest speakers at the LotR cons 'coz of her extensive knowledge...well anyways...she mods some cosplay site, which I need to find the address for again...but if you like...I can do...if you wanna have a looky at her LotR work, it's very very good...trust me.

She asked me for wig and make-up help for her latest Bilbo creation for some con that was on a few months ago in the US...man the costume was awesome...anyway...yeah...just let me know if you'd like some links to her work and such...it's worth a look that's for sure

P.S. Most of my cosplay characters that I'd wanna be are anime guys as well...tehee...but I can't commit to just one right now...I think I'll get back to you on that one ....hehe

Heheheh... well, I guess I should clarify on the Leeloo thing - I did the orange suspender outfit. I'm not *quite* brave enough to do the famous 'thermal bandages' outfit. But it went over quite well nonetheless.

And yeah, definitely send me some links if you can find them - I always like to see great costuming work, and i have a hunch I might have already seen some of hers. It'll be interesting to see if my hunch is right.

Well...in any case...it's still brave not to mention an excellent idea... I love The Fifth Element and Leeloo rocks, from her hair to the outfits...you're lucky to be slim enough to pull that one off...hehe

Okeeee...lemme check some of my old emails for her costuming site...I reckon you know her though...she gets around...convention wise that is...hehe *laughs*

Hehe....willing victims are ok by me...btw...whaddyareckon bout the new site layout?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

BeccyBex In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-13 07:23:08 +0000 UTC]

Yeah the layout is kinda funky...I see what you mean 'bout the font thing...I like how they have brought in the "block a deviant" and "hide message" feature in case you get flamers, which I have been lucky enough to escape so far. But I've heard, or read rather, some disturbing stories, like people commenting negatively on everything you do and posting insulting messages on your front page...shit like that...and sometimes without provocation...weird ay?!

There were a few hiccups in the beginning...like the mood function was sending the wrong emo...this happened a couple of times to me...I sent a message that was sad in nature...and the mood came out with the Spiderman symbol...hehe...they would've gone WTF!!!...I've been too scared to use it since. Actually, I'll test it again on you, if the mood emo isn't the ...then we'll know.

Haha...good point 'bout how some avatars will get lost into the background.

👍: 0 ⏩: 0

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-12 01:02:55 +0000 UTC]

*makes best victim face*

...hmmmm... well, it's been a few days now, so I'm getting *used* to it, at least.... I don't like how big all the fonts are, for one thing. Makes me wonder, though, what if I had 'started' with this layout, and then it switched to the old one? Would I feel the same way about it? Not sure. I do feel a little bad for all those people who were really 'savvy' and made the backgrounds of their pictures match the DA background color... doesn't really work now, does it?

But overall... eh, I guess I can't complain too much, as long as it's still navigable, and visually friendly enough that it's still fun to browse. Because that's the whole point, right?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-13 07:32:48 +0000 UTC]

Bloody bloody...I posted the 1st one in the wrong spot...

I had to go to the deviation page to check if the emo was there (for some reason, it's not showing up when I view the comment in my messages...), and it is! I'm not sure I quite understand the emo thing, but I'm sure I'll figure it out eventually.

...wow, I didn't know you could block people. That's a useful feature. It's nice that you can now control which comments get seen, too. So I'm getting used to the new site format. I'm not sure I like the *look* of it as much as before, but some of the new functionality is very nice.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-14 10:09:03 +0000 UTC]

Ya...the emo thing is making me go emo...hheeeee...still got me stumped that one...and I keep posting in the wrong spot...darn it!! . Another thing I can't work out is how to reply to messages on my front page...I click reply and type the message and there's no send button...just cancel...weeeeeeird!! Have you noticed this?
I'm also noticing that some fields aren't fitting in space wise and the words in that field get all jumbled...that's kinda weird too

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-15 20:27:49 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, there are definitely a few kinks in the system. Seems like they're gradually getting ironed out, though - I noticed that the front page looks better now, for instance.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-18 14:06:29 +0000 UTC]

And now there's a new kink...which in this case is a bad thing...haha...the bloody gallery page view is half covered with the "make this your fav" field or whateva ya call it...looks very silly and if it's a comic art post half the dialogue is covered up ....nuts!!!

I hope I made sense in that last paragraph...I can't think of the proper terminology to better explain myself...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-18 22:18:44 +0000 UTC]

Heheh... yeah, a bad sort of kink. I know EXACTLY what you're talking about, and it's driving me nuts too. It's annoying on everything, but it's extra-horrible on comic pages.

...and I think it's just the fact that the comp I use here at work has a rather old version of internet explorer on it, but I can't see what category anything is in when I look at pictures. Not that it's *that* important, but it's still a little disconcerting. I was also among the lucky 1/4 of DA who had all their devwatch items completely disappear a few days ago - it's fixed now, but I think there's still a few people I've missed stuff from. Not happy.

I haven't talked to any beta-ers about it, but don't you think v5 is just a *wee* bit on the buggy side?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-20 06:30:28 +0000 UTC]

Hey they sorted that pop-up covering the art work view now...thank goodness...and yeah the category thing, where's it gone? Also, I still can't reply to comments on my front page, I had to send an email to helpdesk...1st time too...I had no choice, the prob wasn't fixing itself, plus I've noticed other people seem to be able to...why not me? *does sulky pout*

Hey I didn't know about the devwatch item disappearance prob, that's one thing I didn't have to deal with, far out, how annoying though. So you didn't receive new deviations for a while huh?

Sorry hun, what's a V5? I'm one of those technology-challenged types I'm afraid...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-23 21:31:53 +0000 UTC]

Hehe, sorry, "V5" is just version five - i.e. the buggy new site system and layout. I'm so glad the pop-up thing over the artwork finally went away. It was annoying. Have you gotten your front-page comments to work yet?

And yeah, all my watchlist deviations completely disappeared for a few days. I was paranoid they wouldn't come back at all, or that I would start getting them again after a certain time (but still lose the ones that were originally there), but luckily, *most* of them came back. I suppose if I had the time or the obsession, I'd go to the gallery page of eveyone on my watchlist to see if I missed anything (which I'm pretty sure I did), but I can't seem to keep up with my essage center as it is, so sadly I think I'll just have to let it slide.

So I'm doing my best to just deal with the new site stuff, but overall I'm not happy with it yet. Oh, well. DA is still pretty darn cool regardless, so I can't complain too hard.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-28 04:16:09 +0000 UTC]

And...oh yeah...since you mentioned it...my front page comments still don't work...which is not quite as annoying has having all your devwatches just disappear as you mentioned but I think not being able to view or reply to any messages or deviations wins 1st prize so far....

Now I've got that outa my system...like you said...DA is a wonderful place to be indeed...hehe...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kayshasiemens In reply to BeccyBex [2006-08-30 19:30:58 +0000 UTC]

STILL?? You've officially complained, right?

And is it just me, or do you get the impression that not enough (if any? I haven;t asked any beta-ers about it) testing was done on the new layout before they introduced it? I feel like I've said this before, but it still irks me. The galleries seem to be down a lot lately, too - like, I'll go to someone's front page, and then click their gallery tab, and then I get a message from DA saying it's 'temporarily unavailable'. I can view the individual deviations linked from their front page, but I can't wiew the gallery. And it's been happening to me a lot lately. *GRRRRRRR*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeccyBex In reply to kayshasiemens [2006-08-31 04:25:41 +0000 UTC]

Well I kinda did complain...regarding the lack of my front page message reply ability...but as for all the other stuff; I just waited to see if it would right itself of it's own accord and it did...sort of. You are not alone where it concerns the inability to view galleries from time to time...I've been getting that a lot too...and yes...it's bloody annoying. I've also been getting this windows warning message when viewing my messages a lot, it says..."windows had trouble opening the message and this operation will be aborted"...and then it closes the page and I have to re-open my DA page all over again. this can happen a few times before I actually get to read the message. So many things ay!!...grrr...yup I think you're right about no one testing the waters layout wise...'coz there has been waaaay tooo many probs considering.
