Description Just started watching the AMC show Mad Men, and it's brilliant, each frame of the show could be a picture, so...here's mine in chalk pastels.

You have a beautiful style, I'd like to see you among the participants of the contest for the cover of my sci-fi book (deadline February 14), let me know, thanks

I'm a little confused about the guidelines, are we to pick one of the themes, or use them all in one illustration? Thanks!

Basically you have to do the cover for Volume#2.

You can choose two ways...

1)Inside the magazine there are very different stories.
A post-apocalyptic series;
One is inspired by the TV series Lost;
One is set on a spaceship of scientists, the atmosphere Alien, but not aliens;
One is inspired by the comic book series Aeroball (appeared in 2000AD).

If you want you can take a cue from those to make your cover (with edit of writing)

OR...

2) If you want to create an illustration separately, astonish my eyes(always written with the edit)

If you have any other questions, will be happy to respond.

Thanks - pastels were certainly a step outside of my comfort zone

I agree, they can be really hard to work with, and are often not very forgiving, but once you get settled into a particular piece, the experience and final artwork can be very rewarding. The colors and tonal range are so rich. Great work!

I completely agree with you about each frame of Mad Men being a picture... its a gorgeous show. I love the coloring and lighting of your drawing.. you really captured the scene well. Only things I might change are don's arm (looks off), and their faces look a wee bit stiff, but otherwise really beautifully done.
