Description FINISHED!

Actually, I finished this a few weeks ago, HOWEVER, I did NOT want to post the finished piece online anywhere until AFTER AnimeNEXT 2011 was over.

The finished paints were debuted at my artist alley table at AnimeNEXT 2011, and I'm happy to report, it was a hit! X3

Thank you to everyone who purchased prints, and stopped by to say hi! I especially want to shout out to Katie ~matherite , fellow SWAT Kats fangirl, and sculptress of this ADORABLE little mini-munny custom of Razor!

Full size of the piece is 11x17 inches on bristol board, with a 10x15 inch image area.

Again, going the slightly old fashioned route with this bugger. Rough sketch in my sketchbook, enlarged on a copy machine, sketched Dr. Viper on to a 10x15 inch sheet of copy paper, pieced the two sheets together with brown tape, blocked off my image area on the bristol board, arranged the kitty boys and the Dr. Viper sheets behind the bristol and taped them on, lightboxed the pencils, and tightened them up.

Inked with Speedball Super Black india ink, and with a Raphael Kolisnky sable hair #2 round brush. Straight edges done with an inking nib and raised straight edge.

Painted with Dr. Martin Ph. dyes, white acrylic paint, table salt, and a black grease pencil.

"SWAT Kats: The Radical Squadron", belongs to Christian and Yvon Tremblay, Hanna Barbera, and Turner Program Services.

"Get out from under there, you pint-sssized little pestsss!" cried Dr. Viper, annoyed that the miniaturized SWAT Kats had attempted to sneak a peak underneath his lab coat.

It's all good! Not everyone does.

I'd have to say mine was, "Cry Turmoil". I just dug T-Bone in this episode big time, and I'm normally a Razor fangirl!

I hope that's a good thing. Did I do right by it? It's one of my favorite shows, so I tried to do it justice.

Nice effect with the table salt. I could never get it to burn out the color so vividly. I wonder if sea salt makes a stronger effect or just the same.

Bee-chan In reply to Tamisery [2011-06-18 05:01:28 +0000 UTC]

Sea salt is supposed to create more varied effects than table salt, actually, but if you let table salt sit on the damp piece over night, you should be able to get a similar effect.

I wanna try a white wax candle for more effects as well. Supposed to be great for water effects!

Can show ya how I do it when I visit you next month.

Amazon, hon! Only $30 some-odd!

YES! And like Ilia said, they fight EVERYTHING using a FIGHTER JET!

Seriously bad ass show. More shows like it need to be made NOW, instead of the CRAP that's being pumped out recently.

IndiraJ In reply to Bee-chan [2011-06-16 05:01:21 +0000 UTC]

I'm really surprised at how well the animation held up! You remember trying to watch some of your favorite childhood shows only to wonder "why did I think this looked good back in the day!?" Hell, it looks better than some of the cartoons NOW *coughcheesyassflashcartoonscough*

*guitar solo in fighter jets*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Bee-chan In reply to IndiraJ [2011-06-21 02:37:08 +0000 UTC]

EXACTLY!

So few shows had animation that has held up through the years, but SWAT Kats did.

Ditto on Biker Mice, Pirates of Dark Water, Jayce and the Wheeled Warriors, and funny enough, Samurai Pizza Cats.

Sad to say, the original Ninja Turtles cartoon was NOT one of them, at least with a certain studio they used for a long while. The newer one, though, which brought about the whole SaiNW fandom within the TMNT fandom ( [link] This episode had me JAW DROPPED and clutching my Donnie plushie tight! T^T It introduced the older turtles I remember from the old Archie Comics TMNT comic releases, when Chris Allen was the main artist for the series. ), did a pretty DAMN good job.

Need to hope that it comes out on dvd soon.
