Description Here is the latest entry for my series of cards featuring anime, cartoon and video games girls in pin-up outfits alongside World War II aircraft. Here we have Cheelai from Dragon Ball Super besides the German Messerschmitt Me-163B-1A Komet rocket fighter. Designed by Dr. Alexander Lippisch and Helmut Walter and introduced in May 13, 1944, the Me-163 Komet (German for "Comet") was not only the world's first rocket-powered fighter, but also the fastest plane of the war with a maximum speed of 1,002km/h. Although it arrived too late to change the tide of the air war back into Germany's favour, and was hampered by fuel shortages, the Komet nevertheless proved extremely effective in its short career as a bomber-destroyer, having shot down a moderate number of American Flying Fortresses and British Lancasters, and was impossible for any Allied fighter to intercept, thus causing a cause for concern for Allied strategists. However, although the Komet had no difficulty finding its targets with a climbing speed of 4,800m/min, its speed, although its greatest strength, was also its greatest weakness, as the pilot had only a few seconds to aim and fire at the target before shooting past it, and because it lacked an undercarriage and ran on volatile fuel, it was a greater threat to its own crews than to the enemy, and fatal crashes were commonplace. Nevertheless, although production ended in February 1945 with only 300 planes built, the Komet continued to serve the Luftwaffe against the Allied invasion of Germany in March 1945 until Germany's final defeat in May 7, 1945. As with my other WWII Aircraft Pin-Up pictures, Cheelai, the Luger P08 pistol in her hand, the Nazi flag (with the swastika replaced by a Luftwaffe cross to avoid causing offense), and the clouds in the background are all hand-drawn, while the plane is scanned and printed from The World Encyclopedia of Military Aircraft by Enzo Angelucci.

Cheelai and Dragon Ball Super belong to Akira Toriyama
