Description Dying swans, twisted wings
Beauty not needed here
Lost my love, lost my life
In this garden of fear
I have seen many things
In a lifetime alone
Mother love is no more
Bring this savage back home

Wilderness, house of pain
Makes sense of it all
Close this mind, dull this brain
Messiah before his fall
What you see is not real
Those in charge will not tell
All is lost, sold your souls
To this Brave New World

Dragon kings, dying queens
Where is salvation now
Lost my life, lost my dreams
Rip the bones from my flesh
Silent screams laughing here
Dying to tell you the truth
You are planned and you are damned
In this Brave New World

Well, Zootopia is now out in US theaters and I am as unimpressed as that female Olympian from the 2012 Olympics with the movie's basic premise since it... honestly seems a little blase to me. Honestly, I kind of expected a more interesting premise for an anthropomorphic animals movie than just... it's our modern world but with anthropomorphic animals! I don't know, I kind of expected Disney to go with a more interesting premise, like something akin to Tale Spin or DuckTales or hell, even a noir detective story like that one Spanish comic whose name I cannot place right now.

So, originally, I went more with the idea of a 30s pulp story with sky pirates, Nazis, and Indiana Jones-style adventurers set in a world where it's all non-mammalian anthropomorphic animals, like shark aviators or frog archaeologists. But then, my mind went to another, much darker idea: what if I went with my own interpretation of Zootopia but as a family-friendly adaption of Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, with John the Savage as a monitor lizard of some sort trying to adjust to life in a hedonistic, consumerist, mammal-dominated World State? I was, of course, inspired to do this by reading up on the Wikipedia and TVTropes pages on the book as well as listening to the Iron Maiden song. It just goes to show how bizarre and scary my imagination can be at times, to take cute animated movies like Zootopia or HTTYD and twist them into dark interpretations that reflect actual historical events or famously dark novels.

Good lord, it's weird to be saddled with such a mind at times...

I think Zootopia is only for mammals... 3:
I mean, there were no birds or reptiles. I was really disappointed when they didn't put reptiles -_-

John:  "At least I wasn't a mosasaur.  Viviparous freaks.  Some things just aren't right for reptiles..."

Yeah.  I can agree with you, a more Don Rosa-flavored scenario that only tangentially relies on animal characteristics might have worked better.  Maybe next time around...

The good thing about noir is that it's very flexible about its setting, and still works effectively in modern and futuristic settings.  The modern PI has a very interesting and unusual career, after all.

Yeah...

Ah well, there's always next time Disney decides to an Anthro movie. Maybe then, they'll adapt one of Rosa's stories...
