Description Spent a little more time on the model based on where the paintover went and did some more finished renderings out of keyshot, this is mostly straight out of the program with a little PS work on the decals etc (though you can do that in the program). Could have taken things further, but that's all the time i had to spend on it this week (and probably all the time i will have for a while).

Again, some sort of a realistic take on a slightly future MGS/Eva/Appleseed/GIS humanoid SWAT robotic soldier for the military. Started to theme it slightly towards a black panther, like in MGS how they theme some of their bosses/enemies/robots after animals like a wolf/mantis/octopus/gecko etc. though once you get into any sort of cat themed cyborgs/robots/aliens you head into Aaron Beck territory who has done a lot of cool stuff mixing those ideas over the past few years as well, so the only relation to a panther/cat that stayed on this is just the decal on the shoulder.

Mostly a technical exercise getting some new processes for building complicated hard surfaced designs and rendering pipelines down for the class next term, took a bit more time than i would have liked messing around with each program and figuring out how to get both to work together efficiently (on a laptop!), but i think for future designs it will be a really effective combination to create some highly detailed renderings very rapidly, when you see your design looking photoreal in real-time in the keyshot viewport.....its very addicting.

I barelly believe that isn't 3D, dude lol. Great concept, I really enjoy the "flat" forms of the limbs, the way that the hands and feet looks like naked parts and ... the heel. Geez, this heels rocks. @___@Β

My immediate reaction was "That's very Geth-esque" and I thought of a real-world version of Legion from Mass Effect. The skeletal hands and feet, sleek limbs and torso, and organic (almost recent Metal Gear techno-organic) all combine to make something that's somehow both aesthetically alluring and terrifying at the same time.

I find that you chose to make the muscles thin interesting. It implies that they are far superior the the muscles produced by nature. Clever, and new to me since I've never stopped to think what a robot that utilises synthetic muscles would look like.

I have to say the barrel looks kind of bulky next to the sleek character. Like, he would run around great, but he would get stuck every now and then XD. Though, needless to say, it's an amazing job D:

whhoooooaaa whats your inspiration dude? Looks great, especially what looks like a corporate logo/emblem on the side and the human shape, in a way it kind of reminds me of something out of boston dynamics. Would have been cool to see it with some worn woodland or desert camouflage

Metal Gear Solid, Ghost in the Shell, Appleseed, Evangelion, but for this one you can find the majority of these ideas from MGS4.

Why would a drone/droid soldier require a scope on his rifle? Al the optics should be inside his head.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

BenMauro In reply to Carpathia05 [2013-05-29 16:07:32 +0000 UTC]

Fair point but there are multiple ways it could be rationalized, the original idea was that they were human minds downloaded into these vessels so it could be that they were designed to function in a similar fashion to human vision with slight augmentations, so maybe a slightly better than human range of vision on their head optics but multiple times zoom on the gun, still needing to hold a gun up to their visual sensors to use the sight to see targets much much further away. I can think of a few other ways it could be appropriate as well (other than it looks cool).

Carpathia05 In reply to BenMauro [2013-05-30 01:30:36 +0000 UTC]

Ah. Well played. Theoretically all you would need is some kind of laser rangefinder on the gun which could link to the optics in the head/HUD and it could fire from the hip with godlike accuracy. But it does look cool
