Okay, okay… my guess is that most of you just want me to shut up about this game. Hopefully this’ll be my last talk about this for a while…

Well, it’s been about two weeks since Drawn to Life: The Next Chapter came out, and wouldn’t you know it? THIS GAME STILL PLAGUES MY MIND! When I made my first story review, my only focus was on the ending, mostly because I had just finished the game and had to get the review out with the ending stuck in my mind. But now, I’ve had plenty of time to think about this game. Not only the ending, but as a whole. Now already found the possible religious significance in the game, so I’m not going into that. Well, for starters, I have recorded the entire script of the game onto a Word document so I don’t have to replay the game to remember what they say. So what I’ve been doing is I’ve been reading this script over and over and over, trying to figure out the puzzle that is the DTL story. For one thing, one of the main problems with this game is trying to find out its moral. There’s a ton of possible morals in the story, but I can’t figure out the main one they’re trying to get out. Is it… Don’t make promises you can’t keep? Is it... Always believe in your siblings? Is it… Always do what’s right even if it is not what you want? WHAT IS IT?! I mean, I guess it’s okay to have more than one moral, it’s just that one of them should at least be emphasized if it’s more important. Another thing I’ve noticed is the ending song. Have you actually listened to what it’s saying? If what I’m hearing is correct, then it’s HEATHER who made the Raposa World, as she sings that she made it to get away from reality, with her brother’s life hanging by a thread. …So is it MIKE’S dream, or HEATHER’S dream? I guess their dreams could be somehow connected or something… I dunno… I should also mention the extreme character role reversal that happens during the last chapter, er… last few seconds of the game. What happened there? All of a sudden these two supporting characters become the two main characters of the game, all in about 2 seconds. Then, all of a sudden, all the other characters lose their personalities. Well… except Isaac. By the way, is it bothering anyone else that Isaac is such a downer in this game? And I quote, “Isaac- Face it, Jowee… Wilfre is just too strong. We’ve lost. (Turns away) Color or no color, it’s still home. I say we turn around while there’s still something left to return to.” I mean, geez! I’m grateful that he tried to convince Mari to stop them all from dying, but I didn’t think he would be such a Jerk in this game! But anyways… I’m getting off track here- what was I saying…? Oh, yes. Everyone else loses their personalities at the last part of the game. Even Pirate Beard loses his stereotypical pirate talk. All he says is, “How could this happen?”. I’ve also noticed a large lack of emotion from the character themselves in the last chapter, too. You know, when their sprites change, or that emotion bubble appears over their heads? Those pretty much disappear near the end. I mean… wow. There’s absolutely NO feeling coming from the Raposa. Nothing. Especially Mari. She just talks. That’s it. No voice, no bubble, nothing. It’s almost as if the writers, nearing the end of the plot, were suddenly fired or something, and replaced by some emotional person who probably lost a sibling in a car crash. Which kinda makes you think… if it was Jeremiah Slaczka, or whoever is was thought up the story, maybe… the story connects to his/her real life? I dunno. But it seems like the most logical explanation in this sudden plot twist. But anyways, the ending just doesn’t fit. Heather was a supporting character in the first game, and she should’ve been a supporting character in this one. Same with Mike. If they were making them the Main characters for this game, then they should’ve started the game with them as the Main characters, not all this tease about Jowee and Mari being the Main characters. That’s just not how it works. Character development should be consistent, not sudden. Also, most of us who’ve played these three Drawn to Life games have noticed it’s difficulty is not as high as a lot of other games we’ve played. Nor is the length of the game. I finished it a few hours after I got it. So my guess is that the DTL series is probably intended for younger audiences, like ages around 9 or so. But do they really expect them to grasp such a complex story concept such as this? I dunno… But after 336 hours since seeing the ending, my hatred for it has gone quite a bit down since my first view of it. And yes, this is coming from the guy who decided to make an alternative. But anyway… Sure it’s a lousy ending, but it’s still a Drawn to Life ending that really toys with our emotions. And we should be grateful that we even have a Drawn to Life sequel at all. The game is superb, the concept is unique, and the story is mostly well thought out. What more could they give us Drawn to Life fans? I would’ve much rather preferred having this sequel than getting no sequel at all. It’s not about the story- It’s about the game, and having fun with it. What can I say? The beginning is outstanding, the ending is terrible, and everything in between is oh so sweet.

By the way if you want the script, for whatever reason you may need it, I can send it to you if you’re comfortable giving me an e-mail address as I don’t like using those file-sharing sites very much. Just send me a note.

i think (acording to ur review) mari was just trying to ne strong in front of jowee and everyone... she could have broken into tears at wat jowee was saying about her... her emotion comes bak after she has that momment with the mayor.

They're either behind their bodies, or I forgot them.

No, I just looked at the lineart.
They're there, right in between them. It's just a bit more difficult to see with the lack of black outline.

I think I understand what REALLY happened...
I'm not sure though~Heather, Mike and their parents had a car crash blaaah blah blah blah and Mike was in a coma, we know... Well, you know the whole story. But I think everyone thought Mike was dead, he had no chance to wake up, and that was why the rapos said they didn't have many time. I think the Creator was Heather, I think her drawings connected with Mike's dream somehow... I'm not sure. In the end, you can see drawings near Mike and Heather... I think the moral is that... If we have a dream, we should dream it if it can really come true, like the ending song says "My real dreams have real love, beneath the things that you can't touch, this make believe is not enough, it's time to see a real life"

Also wow; you sure are fan of this game series. Like, more than I see most people get into something.

Why do you like it so much? I'm really interested.

And cute pic.

Why do I take this video game series so seriously?

Well first of all, the game has you create your own objects, vehicles, and weapons, and you create your own character to play as, basically "Drawing Them to Life". And when you enjoy drawing and whatnot... well, it kinda speaks for itself there. But also, this is one of those rare titles that really know how to work your emotions, surprisingly enough, as I was ready to burst into tears at the end of the first game. This was also the first time a game gave me both a full 4 minute musical ending piece and a detailed, animated opening. The actual game was never really anything great to look at, but the majority of my interest was in the plot, which always kept my attention. The game design, concept, and characters are outstanding, and this game has earned its own special spot in my gallery. I could go on and on about this, but I'm better off just giving you the bottom line.

I like the game because it's good.

I just ask since, one, I want to make my own games and all and it would be totally awesome to get people as into it as you seem to be with this, and two, I'm wondering if I should play it too.

I've been reading about it, and the story does seem interesting, I've just been unsure about the gameplay. But I might consider getting it this Christmas now, to try it out.

Plus I find the design of the Raposa really adorable :3

Do you suggest starting with the first game, or the second one? And of course I only mean the DS ones.

Wow. You want to make games? That's pretty cool.

Um, you probably want to start with the first one, because there are so many connections to the first game in the sequel, that it's almost required.

Actually I already do make games. I'm working on one right now for school in fact. I guess what I really mean is I want to make *good* games...

Ah, thought so.

Obviously the moral of the story is to buckle up, or a horrible car accident will send you to coma-induced dream world where you play with cute little fox creatures OH NO :0
