Guess who's been revived? Firefly is finally back and ready for action! A few days ago I had this bizarre urge to try and revise her design, and it just sort of snowballed until it turned into this. I am wicked excited about the things I learned in this piece, I'd never successfully made fire before, so figuring out how to do it in Photoshop was not only awesome, but also a lot of fun. I'd never expected to use the smudge tool like that. X3

There's a bit of a story behind this though. As of the epilogue of a flash movie a friend of mine made states, Fi was mentioned briefly as having killed herself after hearing of the death her beloved, Sheng DiAngelo. She is so consumed with grief after not just his death, but also the death of her three orphaned brothers that she sees no point in continuing. Her life was already a wreck even with them there, living on minimal pay as a waitress in a town where no one else will employ her. She was constantly taken advantage of by many people, everything felt empty and hopeless. However, through death, she manages to find life once more. The Dreamer of Chaos, having stumbled upon the souls of the three orphans, bargains for Fi's life to give her a new hand, as the boys pleaded that she not be taken away just yet. Through their love for her, she is reborn and placed in the gentle hands of Sunburst City, temporarily living with none other than Pyrite Goldsworth for a few months until she's ready to delve back into a better life. She ends up living in Sunburst rather happily, running into her orphan brothers once more, though this time she wasn't their primary caregiver. That however, is a story for another day. The idea of fire and rebirth here come from something I'd been considering for a long time. Fi went through several backstory revisions before getting to this point, and in one of them, I had her buried alive under the ashes of a phoenix who's rebirth cycle had been interupted. Now while that isn't the case in the final story, she still gets covered with phoenix ashes and ends up keeping one safe within her soul when both it and she are reborn, which in part grantes her some of the phoenix's abilities that manifest in their own unique way for her. Hence why there's so much fire here, I wanted it to be majestic like a phoenix reincarnation.
