I was recently watching Studio Ghibli's "The Borrower Arrietty" (my husband and I actually used the main musical theme at our wedding. So good!) and was inspired to design an Arrietty of my own styling...also I need way more practice with people if I am to be a good artist! I am taking some subjects in concept art and character design this semester so am a bit scared.

Arrietty is grown up (no pun intended) in this portrait; there are some canon issues with scaling (the buttons are tiny for a tiny person!) but I did not want to labour over this one 'perfecting' for weeks/months like some of my more recent paintings, because honestly, it was killing me. Trying to make my work look more realistic was just destroying my motivation and love of art. So I've reverted back to my more stylised way of drawing/painting, focusing on colours and tones.

In her crown, she is wearing beads, buttons, seeds and some bottlebrush flower stamen! (an Australian flower )
