6. Bio: Smokey was the first shunter in the IHB Alsip’s yard. He, along with several other steam engines built the yard from scratch. While other engines have come and gone, Smokey has never left. Although he is a hard worker, Smokey doesn’t work as much as some of the younger engines. This is not only due to his age, but also because he is in bad need of an overhaul. However, the extinction of main line steam has meant that no one around is able to do so. Mr. Welch often gets in trouble with corporate due to his refusal to retire Smokey as he still feels that Smokey is a really useful engine.
