It's interesting that Hanna Barbera's superheroes usually don't have their origins told in the episodes. I wonder if they actually thought about origins when the characters were created.Birdman is airing again on Tooncast. It's a great classic.
I haven't watched the Harvey Birdman Attorney of Law series but it seems to be very funny.

Yeah, you have to at least watch a couple of episodes of HBAaL ("Did you get that thing I sent ya?"), it's funny stuff. But you're right, I think part of the charm of superheroes is knowing who's under the mask too, and how they got there.

Maybe the only two series with brief origin stories are Dino Boy and Mightor. In the opening of dino boy we see him falling from an airplane into that pre historic island. And in mightor it's explained that he gets his magic club from an old man that is saved by him. The other heroes's origins are unknown.

True, they never did explain their origins, although they were made from that time comics were very weird.
Anyways, I really liked this drawing (especially Avenger). Also, you should definately watch Harvey Birdman Attorney at Law, it was a hilarious show (especially the ones where he defends Dr. Quest, Scooby Doo and Shaggy, Secret Squirrel, the one where he's constantly cloned, a spoof of the old cartoon, and the Sebben and Sebben employee training video), and Stephen Colbert being his boss is only an added bonus.

your right, the only time Hanna Barbera had to explain an origin story was in the adaptation of the fantastic four, but still its original superheroes were so ridiculously over the top (even for that time) that I doubt they could come up with credible origins

I prefer Tad Ghostal to Thaddeus Bach, but I do not prefer Harvey to Ray Randall. Ray Randall is just adorable. BIIIIIIRDMAN!

His source of power is very clear in the show but there's no clue of who he used to be before his crimefighting life. How did he get those wings? Was he born that way? Was he hatched from an egg? The show doesn't tell it. At least in the episodes that I've seen.
