They are. I remember the bug hullabaloo about it back in the 80's cause they used to be such a common yard plant. Only see them in old places now - like this place and the last place I lived in - both due for demolition!

A shame really as they're very pretty. We had cats and dogs at the time and they never came to any harm and my children weren't into eating plants

And there are probably plenty more plants in gardens now that are just as poisonous. Just go a lot of media attention and paranoia I think when someone's child got sick.
