In this world Gustavus Adolphus was more cautious and did not die at the Battle of Lützen in 1632. The Thirty Years' War ended much earlier with stronger Sweden in northern Germany. Later, Sweden formed a personal union with Brandenburg, expanded its colonial empire, partitioned Poland with Russia (alt-Peter the Great turned his aggression on Crimea), beat Denmark, and even managed to do some fighting with Ottoman Empire. Meanwhile, France beat England in the colonial race for North America and India, but later lost in Africa; Netherlands has built a massive colonial empire in the southern hemisphere; not without difficulties, China has modernized itself on the European model. Although, there were no big wars in Europe for two centuries.

This idyll was destroyed in the late nineteenth century. The ambitious Swedish king had read too many books about his ancestor from the seventeenth century and decided to conquer the whole Germany. By declaring war on Austria and German states, he soon found himself at war with almost all of Europe.

After four years of bloody War of Swedish Aggression Sweden fell into a communist Summer revolution of 1905. Royalist troops in Brandenburg immediately asked the belligerent powers for peace, and the rump Kingdom of Brandenburg was formed (after 20 years they will unite Germany). The rest of the Swedish royalists, who refused to recognize the shameful peace, fled to the remaining colonies. The new Polish state has risen from the ruins of the former Russian and Swedish territories. The revolution was unstoppable; it spread to Russia and later to China. To prevent further expansion Anti-communist pact was signed between the European countries. The so-called Red Scare has begun.

It is 2017 and the world has changed. After a dozen of political crises the Red Scare goes on the wane. Anti-Communist pact evolved in the United Earth Government - loosely united confederation of nations and their former colonies (which include both hardcore dictatorships and progressive democracies). The International has long rejected the idea of radical communism and went to meeting with their former capitalist enemies.
Although the policy of the new Chinese government threatens to destroy this fragile peace…
