Thanks for the compliment! If you're gonna visit Bris Vegas make it in winter; summer's way too hot and humid...

Riverfire is the highlight of Brisbane's annual River Festival . It's so good it makes New Years Eve totally pointless in this city as far as sights and sounds are concerned...

No. Just had a look at the ARC calendar and the Queensland round (on the Sunshine Coast) is this weekend. As are two 24-hour races: Le Mans and Nurburgring. I'll be tuning into Radio Le Mans at every oportunity...

Oh if only they'd produce smoke-less fireworks. In any case, they're still wonderful to watch; half an hour at an event such as this goes by as if it's half a minute...

vivid colours and good timing. i like that not just the bridge and fireworks, but also the city in the background is correctly exposed and well detailed.

That was last year's event. Just about the best view I've ever had for any Riverfire.

Make sure you do. It's too good to miss, and puts New Year's Eve in the shade as far as the fireworks go...

Sorry for the delay...
Just checked and it was 1/8sec at f3.5 with the ISO set at 800. Kinda surprised myself, actually, as I thought I took most photos that night between 1/15 and 1/20...

should have gone for a longer exposure set the shutter to 1 second and adjust the aperature until you get a corrrect exposure, on and shoot around ISO 100 or 200, if you have it on a tripod theres no need for a higher ISO.

Might do some more experimenting come this year's event; I'd only had the camera about a month for last year's. I'd have thought, though, that a longer exposure might dull the effect of the fireworks; make them a little less 'focused'...?
Certainly for still shots, I'd go for 'low and slow' settings...

no not at all, longer means you can capture more of the firework explosion, it also helps so that as soon as you hear it go off you remotely trip the shutter and you get the big bursts in the sky. the key is remotely tripping so you don't get camera shake. but you have to make sure your meter indicates a correct exposure, or it'll be too washed out or two dark.

Oh the wonder that is camera shake. Yeah, I'll give that a shot (excuse the pun) at this year's event. Went out again yesterday evening and took some city shots - all sorts of exposure lengths just to experiment with different looks. I'll post some soon...
