Description Thought I'd pull out an oldie to share with you. This one's from the film days again, around 2002 vintage.

You're looking from Kangaroo Point towards Brisbane's CBD and its rather low-rise skyline. If you were to look at a shot from today you'd barely recognise the place. I particularly love the reflections on the river in this one.

Wondering about the title? Many people jokingly refer to our city as 'Bris Vegas'. Why? It's nothing like the other Vegas. And that's the whole point...

wow it sure changed from this one to the 'reprise' one....i like the reflections better on the other, but this is still very nice

Thanks again. I still love this one, if only for the feeling it gives off. Quality-wise it's not a patch on the new one, and yes, the city's only just recognisable...

Thank you so much! I've long liked this one, even though it looks a little blurred. The new version I prefer, courtesy of much better image quality. There's just something about this one, though, that I'm really drawn to...

Thanks so much. I prefer the new one, purely for the image quality aspect, but this one has something that adds more feeling, whether it's more building lights or the clouds, I don't know...

Thanks very much! Yes, the reflections are wonderful in this one. I prefer the image quality of the newer image (taken only a couple of weeks ago) but there weren't as many lights on; the brightness of this one really stands out...

Sweet shot mate, it is quite hard to capture beautiful lights without them being too dark or light, and you have found the perfect middle. The reflections on the water make this shot top notch, composition is very good, the only thing i would possibly change is to crop the top part of the sky. It serves no real purpose and would make the shot that bit more economical, the water gives the city enough space. Keep up the good work, you have earned a fav from me.

Thanks very much - glad you like it so much! As for the suggestion, I'll keep that in mind, but I left it as it was to split the image in half with the waterline. For a new take on the theme, check out Lights of Vegas (Reprise) , taken just days ago...

Interesting, it looks like you overexposed the shot but it created a beautiful effect, like spires of light rising into the sky!

Now there's a good way of putting it! Thanks very much. I'll take your suggestion that it's overexposed - it most definitely looks it (sorry I've no idea what settings used as this was back in the film days). Maybe something to consider shooting again one night in the near future...

Thanks so much. I'd actually like to - along with many other prints - get the negatives scanned so I can play with them at a high resolution. I just need to go through five years' worth of them to pick out the goodies...

I can remember when it really was a big country town. It has come a long way since then, mostly for the better.

I like the 'feel' here -- the colourful motion-blurred river and the blown out highlights. Seems different from the usual 'crystal clear' night shot from this location.

Thanks for this - I just wish I could tell you remotely what sort of settings I used. The downside of film - and not being sufficiently prudent to write down all the details. No problems with digital...

Thanks very much! It could, however, be a while before you get more oldies because I have a box full of prints. It'd take forever to go through and find some I want, and then scan and edit them. I will get there, but don't hold your breath!
