Painted entirely in Photoshop 7 with a Wacom Intuos3.Tech stuff:
Approximate time spent: 8 hours
PSD dimensions: 3450 x 2046 (300dpi)
Size of PSD file: 43.7MB # of layers: 12The hair in this piece marks a big leap in my technique. It's also my favourite part of the image.

It's true - I really did paint it... but it's a few years old now and to be honest, looks a little dodgy in places.

did you use the original picture as a model/inspiration or as a template?

This one is a couple of years old now so I was still getting to grips with painting digitally. I tend to stick very close to the reference pictures - my imagination sucks! - although I'm hoping to try and move away from celebrities so that the pressure of getting a good likeness, at least for the purposes of non-commission work, is reduced.
