Pictured here manning his YD-52E auto cannon, Corporal Rann is a deck gunner belonging to the GAR's 277th Heavy Lift Squadron, a unit that primarily utilised the RHE-constructed LACT/H cargo transport. Deck gunners were specialised clone troopers who were trained to use aircraft-mounted weaponry to defend their positions from aerial combatants, in addition to close air support when in range of ground targets. Their helmets came equipped with an enhanced multi-band communication system along with a built-in HUD in their visor that highlighted potential threats, and provided information such as geographical coordinates, time, and elevation to the wearer. They also wore an emergency survival kit, GPS panel, spare oxygen tank, and medical kit if the aircraft they were stationed on was to become compromised. In this instance, Rann's job was to provide security to surrounding republic transports as they hauled supplies to frontline troops during the Darkha Campaign (20 BBY).
