A sleepless night can do you wonders... well not always.My first painting of 2010.
A Sea Horse for .'s March theme.
The colors are somewhat different in person, especially the blues. The peachy orange of the frame is somewhat different in person too.
watercolors, watercolor pencils, a whilte gel pen, fineliners, extra rough watercolor paper.
I'm not sure if I can still call it an ACEO as I added a little frame to it..
with frame: 8,2x10 cm
without frame: 6,5x9 cm

Ah! I'm sorry I haven't commented on this piece, I fav-d it at work he he he. Anyway, I really like it because I think this little seahorse has some serious cute going on and the blue against the orange/red sand color of it's flesh and the plant are great. I think one of your greatest strengths is how clean your colors and washes are. That being said, since you requested a critique my only comment is that I wish there were a little more contrast in his body. But contrast and watercolours are not the best of friends hahaha. Anyway, I'm sorry to hear that you're feeling sick, I hope you feel better, and I hope you keep painting this year. ^^

By contrast do you mean that the patterns should be more distinct? I'm not sure I understand what you mean.
I think I coul've used darker browns and the patterns could be more defininte.. I was also thinking about bubbles, but I got scared of ruining the whole picture.

Tényleg érdekes textúrája van, szerintem a vízhez most pont jól megy. Ugyanilyen papírt használtam a kis gepárdos ACEOhoz, de azon szerintem nem tesz semmit a ké.phez.

I didn't deliberately make the colors complimentary, but I just checked my color wheel and you're right.

The width of the outlines is varied a little bit, but maybe a bit too randomly.

more variety of the outline might give the plant more volume 
not much outline is needed to distinguish the plant from your delicious blue background 
but then, i'm a cranky old lady who does not come close to your talent 
how do you like working in such a small size? with the unbelievable detail you apply, it must be easier, no?

I may experiment with outlines a bit more in future. I didn't feel particularly brave to experiment on the rough surface of the watercolor paper I used here though.
I feel really comfortable with this size. I think I'll try to play around with this format a bit more. I have some plans
I love tiny details and textures.. and it's time efficient too.
