Description Pretty much all of my close friends know I'm super into Dungeons and Dragons.
This is Illyria na'Xiuhcoatl, or Illya for short. She was by far and beyond my favorite character to play as a PC. She's a Gold Wyrmling, and was statted in 3.5e using Savage Species rules shown in one of the Dragon Magazines.

If you know much about D&D, you know that older dragons (especially golds) are really way too strong compared to normal player characters. So thus Illya was a wyrmling (baby), and basically was the cutest loli dragon ever. (Think essentially Kanna from Kobayashi Dragon Maid.) She would polymorph into a little girl in towns so as to not draw attention, which would be funny because she'd be with this rough tough band of adventurers, and people would be like 'Why do you have a little kid with you?" And my party would point at her and go: "She's actually a dragon!" Another funny story: we almost TPK'd against a goblin chieftan, so I imagine Illya sleeping a thousand of years later as a mighty great wyrm, still plagued by nightmares of almost being killed by a puny goblin.

Illyria na'Xiuhcoatl is my character. Please do not use for your own character without asking permission first. (If I give you permission, it is OK, but only after I give permission).
Art is mine.

Dude, I'm actually playing a baby brass dragon in a D&D game right now! We should share stories! (And BOY, do I have some stories to share. Like the time she accidentally set a building on fire. Or the time she thought she could hide behind a fence post....)

She is so cute! I play the exact same type of character from DM320, a Gold dragon wyrmling, and his name is Icarus. He usually transforms into an eagle for a 13+8=21 base on Spot during travel, and doesn't really like taking a humanoid form. He's a bit of a scaredy cat though, he tries to preserve himself since he knows he'll do more great things when he grows older, so he would probably run away from TPK with that sweet 150 flight speed, if the enemies could stop his fiery wrath! He's currently trying to get his mom back after escaping from an attack, and divination showed her in hell fighting demons. So still a long way xD

I bet Illyria has a bunch of stories and makes you love dnd as much as I do! I planned for my next character to be a human, but I don't think I can go back after this.

Thanks for your artwork!

Thank you so much for your comment! I love talking about D&D characters with other people Icarus sounds adorable! In D&D3.5, dragons can't take non-humanoid shape until they get Polymorph as a spell but I would have totally transformed Illyria into a hawk or eagle for Spot checks if I could have.
Hahah! I also RP'd Illyria as a scaredy cat since wyrmlings are only 5 years old. So Icarus and Illyria are basically little kids. She was a front line fighter (had to be as tank role) but in towns she would like hide shyly behind the other party members in little girl form and hold their hand.

Yeah... lol Illyria ruined me for D&D characters kind of, since it was just so fun playing as a dragon. She's definitely been my favorite D&D character I've ever played and a lot of other races seem boring by comparison. (Humans especially XD;; ) I'm glad you're having fun with Icarus! I don't mind if you show your group this picture and use it for Icarus if you would like to

In DM 320, it said that they can take any animal or humanoid from from level 4 (media.discordapp.net/attachmen… ). I'm not sure if your DM ruling is different - it's kind of a shame because I love being an animal companion to make it look like our party has 1 less member。

Yeah, he's also only 5 years old! (Since that's the cap for wyrmling age, and I plan to level him into very young) But his mental scores are way better than that of an average adult human, so it's kind of jarring to roleplay sometimes. Our DM threw us a puzzle about prime numbers and OOC I was the only one that could solve it, so in universe I just imagine his mom homeschooled him maths when he was younger.  In line with the scaredy cat nature, I also built him super optmizied for armor, he currently has 28 AC which means he is very hard to hit, and since fire spells are super common I get a free pass on all of those. So he has to tank the front line, but once the DM threw something nasty and did 72 damage in one turn, so he ran and hid behind the healer for the rest of the encounter. He probably would get along pretty well with Illyria, I imagine

For my next character, I wanted to play a casting character which is mostly incompatible with dragons due to levelling, but with some research I realize you could apply the sovereign archetype "Loredrake" to make a dragon a potent spellcaster, so I totally don't need to ditch my awesome flight skills and dragonly regality to experience that!

And thank you so much for letting me use the picture! I use an online sheet for easy data-keeping and you can actually find him right here: www.myth-weavers.com/sheet.htm… I'm so glad dragon portraits are gender neutral xD

Wow you are completely right about the animal thing, I have NO idea how I missed that. D'oh! Silly me.

Yeah, I also wanted to level Illyria into Very Young but the campaign stopped right at level 11 when she got her Wing attacks Hahah that's so awesome you were able to solve the puzzle! Of course the dragon would be the only one to know due to his innate intelligence I had Illyria raised by a wizard because it said in the Draconomicon lore that sometimes gold dragons will entrust their hatchlings to humans for raising in order to impart humanity's wisdom to their offspring. But honestly I'm sure a draconic mother would also be teaching their offspring arcane lore as well. It sounds like we built our dragons very similarly, since Illyria was at the front of the party I also poured a lot into her AC. Her armor wasn't as nice as yours so I think her AC only came out to 25 or so. I'm just glad mythril chain shirts for monsters is a thing that exists though/that magical armor changes size to fit the wearer. I think Icarus and Illyria would get along too! Awww little kid dragons <3 <3

That's really cool! I'll have to look into the Loredrake archetype. What book is that in? I want to use that too! XD

Thanks for sharing your myth-weavers sheet I used to use that as well until they had a data crash a few months back that wiped all my sheets, then I got scared and started keeping physical copies of everything >_< Hehe yeah, it's impossible to tell via portrait if it's female or male, thankfully.

Oh dear, it's such a shame that the campaign ended! I have a totally not OP homebrew item (the DM made one for every character) that adds 2/3/4 d6 fire damage off of every natural attack if I spend a standard action expending 1/2/3 charges out of 3 per day, which the wings boost so much. The final boss of a trial last session was an ancient iron golem that we had to survive for 10 rounds, but we killed him in 2 rounds cause I used all 3 charges and 2 action points to make two full round attacks, which was bite/bite/claw (he didn't get wings yet) and even though he had physical damage reduction he took 24d6 fire damage in one round And if my wing attacks hit too, that'd upgrade to 40d6

Yeah, that would make more sense as to why a baby would be adventuring! Unfortunately all playable dragons have to be precious babies so you have to come up with a reason as to why they are out here instead of playing in their parent's hoard. And yeah, my AC is a bit high since I enchanted my armor and also have a +2 Ring of Protection, which are quite expensive magical items for this level, but it helps him not die a lot xD I didn't end up using mithril, though, since you can still fly in light armor - I just took the Light Armor Proficiency feat and rolled with it. I may find an in-universe reason to get the Wyrm of War Sovereign Archetype (same type as Loredrake, but for melee attackers) which means I autoqualify for weapon/armor proficiency and am able to get an extra feat out of it xD

It's from Dragons of Eberron page 30! It should be pretty easy to find with google. In fact, there is this very nice forum thread on Giants in the Playground www.giantitp.com/forums/showth… which is where I got the sovereign archetypes from! It's a long read but if you're trying to build a dragon player character and don't want to be restricted to the dragon's base stuff, this is a huge help!

Indeed, I heard from my DM that the site did crash a while ago, which deterred a lot of people, but for my last sheet changing exp and hp and everything was a huge hassle so I'd rather use a digital version. In any case I've actually memorized most of what he is so even if it crashed I would be able to rebuild my precious Icarus from scratch xD

Thanks! I think D&D is becoming more archaic since people just play video games nowadays.
But I appreciate the compliment!

I like both reading and playing games. I used to read a LOT when I was younger, but in college I had to read textbooks so often that I stopped reading much and basically only played video games and DnD. (I did read a few books though, like I read the Age of Fire series in college). Now I still don't have much time to read physical books unfortunately, but I discovered audiobooks! So I listen to those on my commute to work now and I get to "read" for about an hour each day, sometimes more.
