Description
Platicaridae is a new taxonomical family of terrestrial fauna from the planet Isla. This family is defined by and expanded disk shaped plate originating from the pseudothorax of the animal, which is used protect the organism from predators and harsh conditions. This group is very diverse, and shown are two species which are fairly closely related.

P. candidimorpha is a species belonging to Platicaridae, characterized for it's unique bioluminescent displays. This species is found in darker environments, such as the spore forests or the black cliffs, both areas which are fairly concealed from light. In this darkness, the creature attracts a mate by flashing its glowing display and waving its front apendages.

This species is herbivorous, and will feed on just about anything small enough to consume, including small plants, fungi, and decaying matter. The characteristic plate on its back has become almost completely translucent, allowing and observer to see the organism pseudothorax underneath. Rows of small yellow feet can be seen under the primary body structure, as well as a pair of brightly colored fins, which are used as both olfactory and electrically sensitive organs.

A. mephitis is a smaller foraging species found in the eodronta forests. It is herbivorous, and can often be found scaling light-facing eodronta roots, picking them clean of lichen-like organisms. This species wards away predators by emitting a pungent smell from its abdomen, and if a threat gets too close, whipping at it with the two brightly colored appendages on it's primary head.
