Description one of the quick-and-dirty's I have going between projects. While I wait for my assighned work to dry, pickle, cool, set, or whatever, I work on stuff like this.

I'm quite happy with it, though I'd be lying if I said it didn't have a few problematic flaws.

Eventually I'll make a few more, in a few diffirent species.

edit: on a side note, this design is not open source clip art. if you want to use it, please: a) ask first, and b) credit the piece.

You did a nice job of capturing the essence of the fox in such a simple design.  I have similarly endeavored to capture the essence of our North American animals in such an abstract prehistoric style, including one I did of our Gray Fox.

This thing is beautiful! Can I use it on my portfolio site's header? The silhouette anyway. I'll credit you in the DA mockup (Site is under construction) and in my site's colophon. Thanks.

Ooh, I love it! The clean lines are beautiful, and the... copper, right? fits the design beautifully.

you used to have a pic of a necklace like my avatar. can you post that again?

Regrettanly, no. I erased the picture from the gallery after deciding the photography wasn't quite up to standard, and I am unable to take a new photograph because the piece has since been lost.

ah no worries mate. Can you at least give me as much info on the piece on how you made it. It would help a ton. >.<

yup. However, if you're planning to duplicate the piece, I'll have to ask you to reconsider. That necklace was designed and made for somebody very close to me.

Really elegant . Your work always has such an impressive precision to it. Just out of curiosity, how big is this?

ha, thanks! I'm thinking of cranking out a whole series of these and posting them for the next show and sale. Minus the 5 days it has to spend in the tumbler I can make one of these in 3 or 4 hours.

Yeah I was wondering about the legs too o.o I can't see anything joining them, that makes the whole thing really cool ^^
This is a really nice design! I'd buy one!

bionic-dingo In reply to o0NeonCola0o [2006-11-19 17:26:10 +0000 UTC]

thanks! I was thinking of selling a few. I need to correct some design problems with it first, though.

Anyways, legs: attached with a u-shaped pieces of copper wire that's been blackened with liver of sulphur. They pretty much vanish whenever it's on a dark surface (Including over a shirt, which I think is pretty nifty) which is why I photographed it on black. unfortunatley, one of the problems is that copper wire is a tad soft so they bend when you drop it, even after 5 days worth of work-hardening in a tumbler full of steel shot. Future ones will probably be in silver or bronze. Eventually, I'll post a much nicer photo with a gray background. this was just a quick one to prove I'm not dead.

Ooo sounds like a really nice degree, wish I'd done something like that instead of multimedia, sounds a lot more practical ^^ some days I just miss working with something real like clay and wood.

I'm sure you'll do fine ^^ the work so far looks great

How do the legs stay put? They seem to be floating there....

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

bionic-dingo In reply to superpower-pnut [2006-11-19 17:20:11 +0000 UTC]

They're soldered onto the back of the main form with a half-jump ring made of copper wire. It's a u-shape, so it's not to visible. I also backened the half-loops and back of the fox with a liver of sulphur patina then polished it off on the front. When it's on anything that's a dark colour the half-loops holding the legs on pretty much dissapear. I thought it was a rather neat trick.
