In my mind this was supposed to look more sinister than it does, but I guess it's kind of difficult to negate the silliness of fruity headwear, and I should be thankful it's not worse than it turned out to be. I'm also reconsidering the placement of the melon slice. I may have to revisit this idea in the future, and get it closer to my original mind image.Β

So for a speed-painting, this is a pretty good piece.
The brush work and mood is really interesting and the colours are awesome!

One of my favourite parts is the hair with the strawberries on the right shoulder.
Your style here gives everything the right 'weight'...as in the composition is very harmonic, and everything looks good together. The Picture is in balance.

The background is also nicely done and supports the figure very well.
Although I wasn't so sure about the yellow there on the left, I can see that it pics up the lemon's colour in an interesting way.

BUT:

The lower arm and hand are somewhat off. (Maybe too dominant in proportion?)
Also she looks like she's biting her fingers and not the lemon.
Finally, the Melon. First, I really want to congratulate you on those fruits. They are very well done! Definitely good work for a speed-painting! However, all fruits work well, except for the Melon, which just seems to be stuck there.
It's very dominant and that's where my eye first went. It just seems to be fighting with the lemon for attention and doesn't work itself into the picture.

Still! Well done! And a great speed-painting Job!

Finally I get around to a proper reply on this. First, thank you very much for taking the time to write this critique, and for some of the very nice comments in it too

I also agree with the critiques, the somewhat awkward arm, the lemon/hand biting, and the unfortunate slice of melon. The only way it could stick where it's stuck is if it was nailed onto the skull. Not a very comfortable thought really. If you push play in your mind's eye it falls off and goes splat on the ground

haha! thanks for taking it like a sport.
YEah but other than that its really good!

Well, I think a simple tweek on the shadows on the melon would have done the trick really.Β
Urgh....no nail in brain that's really grossΒ Β Β
I didn't even really mean that it didn't fit because of the position, only that due to the way of shading and colour intensity, it just pops out. which could be a good or bad thingΒ Β

I'm my own harshest critic, possibly besides my brother, so I'm not overly sensitive. I'm also not about to turn my nose up at someone who takes the time and effort to give me an honest opinion and helpfully point out what could be better I am always thankful for critique. I'm just not too quick with the replying all the timeΒ Β

Β

And I know giving critique can be a bit nerve-wracking, because you mean the best, but sometimes there are those that take it quite differently. Nothing quite like writing several paragraphs, including links to tutorials and examples, only to have it shot down or dismissed or ignored. Well anyways, again thank you, and if you ever feel like offering me more of your opinions, have no fear, I take it in the spirit it is given

yes! Being ones own greatest critic is as important as being your own #1 fan ^^
Both is always difficult.
But you are awesome ^^ Keep doing what you do

would you say that digital painting is hard? At my age it might not be worth saving for a tablet, but it would be great if i had one

It looks pretty amazing. I love the expression on the woman as she eats the lemon. It looks like she is experiencing how sour it is.

Oh I really love this drawing!
The colours are very eye-catching and beautiful - I like them most about the Picture.
But I also like your drawing-style which remembers me of traditionally drawn oil-pictures.
Your love for the Details is also admireable - the way you drew the fruits are wonderful and I love the pineapple most.
The Expression of the man is very interesting but I like it.

Very well done, you did a very good Job!
I love it!
