Description very excited for this.  very challenging assignment, being a line artist and being a bit of a time crunch job.  Still much to learn on the digital front, even for just editing.

That said, still my first official accepted piece of work for Battletech.  It can be found on pg 61 of the new (released GenCon 2018) "Shattered Fortress" Sourcebook, by Catalyst Game Labs.

8"x12" pencil and ink on paper, digitally edited via GIMP SketchBook Pro and Photoshop.

It looks great! Congratulations on being published.

One thing that many people do when making art for publications is to work on a much larger scale, so the details don't get lost and you can add stuff to things like the dropships using a thinner pen. It does increase the time it takes to finish the art work.

For paper you could try A2 (16.5 x 23.4) or A3 (11.7 x 16.5) to give you more space to work with.

This counts the same for digital art too. You really need a large image if you don't want to see individual pixels.

Thank for the tips!  I definitely have a lot to learn on digital art, as layers, etc really are different than the mindset from traditional art.  It did dawn on me AFTER the fact that I would have a lot easier time tweaking, manipulating, etc, if I did the mechs as separate pieces, then the back ground and foreground also as separate layers... big thing for me is I am also limited in work area and supplies, so going much larger on work stock isn't feasible (yet) but between learning to use this tablet (ain't there yet!) I might be able to cheat on the background stuff more... and certainly could have had a MUCH easier time had I let each mech take up even a full A4 sheet then, then scaled them as needed when I combined layers.

*sigh*  Next time, Gadget!  Next time!

Yes, that could work better, though you have to take care to keep a consistent scale on each piece otherwise you get inconsistent line width.

I think it looks really great as a piece of traditional media, but the additional flexibility that digital artists can enjoy really elevates a lot of modern illustrations to a whole new level. It's hard to compete with only pen and paper. Good luck with your future commissions!

Well done.

Also don't bring a knife to a gun fight.

Never bring a knife.  A Hatchet or Mace, maybe, but them Dracs gotta start leaving their letter openers at home.  They were much more successful when they stuck with PPCs.

Yessir.  In the new book released at GenCon.  Dunno if they'll use me in the future, but to even get to add one piece of original art to my favorite IP?  Very happy.
