Description
Preston Tucker wasn't just an extraordinary visionary in the field of automobiles. He also briefly attempted to extend his activity to aircraft design, and submitted at least one design to the USAAF for a lightweight fighter. The Army Air Force must have been sufficiently impressed to grant him a contract and assign Tucker's Model AL-2 the designation XP-57. Of course, the XP-57 was never built, and Tucker had so much to do trying to make his car business survive (see the Tucker movie) that his company couldn't possibly have had the time, energy or capacity for the production of aircraft prototypes. What you see here is an attempt at depicting what an operational P-57 might have looked like. I based my artwork on an existing but sketchy profile view of the XP-57 and completely redrew it, adding plausible detail, color, markings and a few visual elements such as the logo and slogan from post-war Tucker car ads.
