Description I've gotten a lot of questions on how I make beards in GIMP, so I figured I'd pull into my little experiment and show you all how I do it!

If you wanna show me your bearded work, please send a link of the deviation in a note instead of leaving it in a comment, so it'll be easier for me to find.  I'd be more than happy to look at any work you wanna show! ^^

Any questions, feel free to send a message my way.  I'd be more than happy to answer!

And if you saw something else I've done in previous posters, and want a tutorial on it, let me know!

SFM creation.  Edited in GIMP.

Essentially hair can be done the same way, but I've since stopped using this method and haven't made any tutorials for quite a few years now.

Can this working when making blood? Or magical beams XD

I suppose it would, but you'd have to be sparing with the blood, if using this method. Meaning don't draw a huge pile without any other definition or empty spots in it, otherwise it'd look funky.

As for magical beams, probably not, unless you want a partical-like effect. For that, I would suggest either using particals from SFM, or otherwise I'll make a tutorial about how I like to try and do them ^^

Particals? Idk how to do those XD. But I'm trying to learn how to edit SFM pictures using GIMP. Similar to how CryoIceray does to his pictures. I'm not completely emulating his style but I want to make stuff similar to that. Thanks for the info.

Particles do take a while to get used to, believe me.  They're easy when it comes to getting them into your picture, they're a whole 'nother ballpark when it comes to getting them to look exactly the way you want them to.

And no prob!  If you ever need help, I'll try my best to do so ^^

I'm actually learning new ways to make hair, so once I get a hang of it, I can try to make a tutorial about it

I'm about to ask a really stupid question...
How do you make SFM comics with GIMP? <…<
(If you  have a tutorial for this, please send me the link.)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BitchyRedSniper In reply to Quawesome-the-arter [2014-03-27 19:39:08 +0000 UTC]

I actually don't have a tutorial on that, but what I do is I make each individual panel in SFM or Gmod (depending on what you're using), edit them individually in GIMP, and then have all the edited panels come together in MS Paint (usually already pre-installed on computers).  You can save the comic there, and it should keep the format you gave it.  Meaning, if you have the panels stacked one on top of another, reading it from top to bottom, it should save that way.

If you need any more help, feel free to send a message my way! ^^

I would have just made the beard on the actual skin

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BitchyRedSniper In reply to DellConagherEngineer [2014-03-01 22:05:03 +0000 UTC]

If you do it on the skin instead of making it on a new layer, you'll end up making the noise and blur effects appear on the rest of the poster.  This way, with a new layer, it's only the beard that gets the effect

Looks complicated, but very easy after you do it a couple times

I was doing a dumb thing.

This is very similar to how I usually color things.
