AdorableΒ , any tips for self taught animators. There aren't any schools where I am , so I'm trying to teach myself. But a few tips or recommendations wouldn't hurt. If you don't wanna respond, that's okay.Β

But again, keep up the good work. You're awesomeΒ  Β

Of course I'd answer! I always recommend Richard William's book The Animator's Survival Kit as the bible of animation. Read it, know it, be it!
Observation. Observe how things move. Study animation resource material. Keep a sketchbook and draw in public. Draw the people around you, all animation is grounded in reality. Learn how muscles and joints work and learn anatomy. Attend life drawing classes. Take criticism and listen to what people say- you will improve.
Study lots of different kinds of animation, not just the big stuff but the experimental stuff.
Keyframes first, then inbetweens. Start with a good moving stick figure, then flesh it out into a character. Learn how to animate on paper first, then move onto digital software.

Thats some early morning rambling for you! Crash course! If you need any help, message me and good luck. Animation is a way of life, its a passion job. Noone goes into it being so so about it.
The best bit of advice i can give you is lose your ego, gain a thick skin.

Thank you for replying, and thank you for the advice. I'm busy working on a pilot for a show I have in mind, I'm still at the storyboard process. My plan is to send the pilot to a few animation festivals, and hope someone likes it.

It's really awesome to meet someone so passionate about animation, now I don't feel alone.

Thank youΒ Β
And have a wonderful dayΒ

Dude, animation is a lifestyle because if you want to persue it as a viable career, you are competing against people who do it 24/7. You have to have a love for it otherwise, you're not going to get very far!

Good luck with the short! If it's shown in the UK, let me know!

Quite a few contracts- Sinfonia, The royal navy, various youtube channels, music videos. I recently did animation tests for Dangermouse and Gumball. I'm still very new, i graduated in animation in 2015.

...The eighties cartoon Danger Mouse?

The new series for CBBC back when Boulder was producing it. It was an interview process and oh god i wanted that job, such a fangirl, but no such luck. Not even mad, was an honour to be considered. Same goes for Gumball but Dangermouse holds a special place in my heart- i grew up with it.

I didn't even know there was a reboot. I was almost convinced you were a time traveler.

Do you have other animation sample on here?
