I compare Hinata to Nodoka a lot, and she does go through the same progression as Nodoka.
However, Kishimoto, IMHO, left it, as usual for the wallflower yamato nadeshiko archetype, far far far too late to get the majority of shippers to notice.
Ken Akamatsu, with his wallflower, did it in the double-digit chapters, and everyone, even the readers, went 'Crowning Moment Of "Did that just happen?!"'
Hinata's confession, was 'Oh look, she confessed,' and then it was over.
The thing to note about the current Hinata, most of all, is whose allegiance she has...
It's not any country or the Combined Elemental Nations, it's not Akatsuki or the Uchiha...

There is nothing wrong with shipping plot-unrelated ships!!! Yet fans should know that when something happened on the manga, and someone talked about that...It still happened on the manga. With interpretation or not. I dont like when people pretend not to see something because they dont want to(a lot of narusakus kepp doing that-not all btw)
PS: I ship plot-unrelated ships too. But I have it clear in my mind that it will never happen on the manga.
