About Kaylee:

While she's clearly a rip-off of Lara Croft / LFG's Captain Tah'vraay, Kaylee (of no last name) was inspired by a number of characters that I liked growing up. In the comic (that has yet to be created), Kaylee is the captain of an infamous band of space pirates (known as either the Star Raiders or the Wyvern, I haven't decided yet). Her crew holds the distinction of being predominently female, with only one notable exception: the time-lost human, Robert.

She wasn't always a space pirate, however. The near-immortal half-human, Kaylee, was born to a human mother and an alien father, one whose race evolved from wolves rather than apes. That their genes were at all compatible was a surprise to many, and she was reluctantly accepted by members of both species. Growing up, Kaylee spent equal time earning a place within her species' tribe, and studying with the inhabitants of the visiting human starship. She didn't know it at the time, but as her species was the first discovered by the post-apocolyptic human refugees, Kaylee was actually the first hybrid ever born.

Years of peace between the humans and the natives were shattered when the daemon arrived. After the destruction of Earth, they had followed the refugees out into Space, seeking to finish what they had started. Despite everything the humans had done to evade capture, the daemon had found them once again. All across the galaxy, humans and their newfound allies took up arms against the invaders.

The war that ensued stretched across several planets, including the mysterious satellite Haven, and became known as the War of the Crystals. Years of interplanetary combat finally saw the daemon onslaught crippled, and the invaders pushed back to the edge of the galaxy. Following the end of the war, the surviving humans founded a Galactic Alliance tasked with ensuring both the welfare of the galaxy, and that the daemon would never again challenge its inhabitants. Kaylee's prowess in combat and her leadership finese earned her a place as one of the Galactic Alliance's top commanders during its early years. Kaylee served with distinction for many decades, eventually rising to the rank of Admiral. The higher she rose in the Galactic Alliance, the more corruption she witnessed, and she quickly became disgusted with the entire system. She was looking for a way out when pirates attacked her ship.

In a bold move, the space pirate Rexx and his crew attacked the flagship of the Galactic Alliance and made off with most of her valuable cargo. After witnessing first-hand the ferocity of the ship's captain and her unwillingness to surrender, Rexx ordered her captured and brought aboard his ship. The space pirate captain saw her potential and offered her a place on his crew. Seeing it as a means to strike at a now-corrupt Alliance, Kaylee willingly agreed.

For many years Kaylee served as Rexx's first officer and proved to be every bit as cold and ruthless as he when they assaulted the Alliance, earning herself the title "Little Rexx." As much pleasure as she took in seeing the Galactic Alliance belittled, Kaylee despised the way Rexx attacked civilian craft and murdered their crew. During a raid on a particularly large refugee freighter, Kaylee turned on her former mentor and stole his ship. Rexx was severly injured in the coupe, and it was many years before he returned to his barbaric trade.

While Rexx recovered, Kaylee recruited a crew of her own and began a life-long career of illegal smuggling and active piracy against a form of government she no longer believed in.

If you're flying a civilian craft with a civilian transponder, you're all right. If you're flying a government craft, say, one carrying precious metal, supplies, or strong boxes of cash... well... you're not so alright.
