Description “Oh Talonstrike, why d'ya have t’ be so stupid sometimes?”
Mirage sat restlessly in a substandard chair beside the repair berth assigned to Talonstrike, her partner in the Peacekeepers. They had both been damaged following her botched attempt to arrest two Cybertronian slavers but he had come off worst, taking the brunt of a sonic attack from the MetalMaster creature they were hunting. She came off relatively lightly, considering – she’d only been the subject of an attempted rape, her chestplate prised open to show off her spark to the world.
It had only been a week since the attack, and she had been cleared for duty by the medics, but Talonstrike still had a few more weeks in medbay, so long as he regained consciousness.

She felt guilty. Guilty for going in there without support, guilty for getting her partner hurt, guilty for her arrogance. The femme sighed, resting a hand on her partner’s shoulder plates, hoping beyond hope that the simple gesture would wake him, but to no avail. No change.
“Ah’m so sorry, Talonstrike,” she whispered, taking one of his servos in both of her own, “Ah didn’t mean t’ put you in danger.”
The femme shook her helm, hoping he was listening somewhere in the void of his unconsciousness.

This was silly, she’d decided, why was she doing it? Perhaps it was to let her partner know she was there for him, or to return the favour for saving most of her dignity, or perhaps to soothe her guilty conscience. She couldn’t pin any single reason why.
What mattered was that she was there for him, whether he was conscious or no. She just sat there, holding his servo between her own and praying to any deity that would listen that he pulled through.

Mirage frowned, denta clenching as she wondered what the quack would say later in her psychological debrief. She looked down at her newly-immaculate chestplate, admiring the handiwork of the medical officers in Peacekeeper HQ. The crumpled sections of metal had been systematically reforged and reshaped, meaning it was now impossible to detect what damage had been done to her chassis.

The femme blinked, drinking in the mutated Cybertronian's form. She remembered him when Atrocity had first... "changed" him, and she could remember the utter distaste, the hatred and spite she felt towards him those long five years ago. Now, however, she looked on him with pity, and as somewhat of a kindred spirit; they were both outcasts. He was a mutated freak, reviled and treated with suspiscion by those he may have once worked with, and she was a Predacon, pure and simple. That, and there was the minor matter of having been one of Atrocity's Lieutenants back on Murphy's World.
Looking at him, Mirage could gradually see how handsome he had been, through the horrendous mutation of his exoskeleton, the peverse fusion of Cybertronian and bird of prey. Had things turned out differently, Mirage may have found herself attracted to him more easily, but right now she couldn't place where her feeling lay.

Thoroughly confused by the conflicting emotions dancing around her processor, Mirage leant back in her seat and allowed her gaze to wander over her partner's physique, resisting the temptation to touch the warped metal and flesh.

Her musing was cut short by the abrupt entrance of a pretty young nurse; Mirage turned to look at the new arrival, her medical scrubs crisp white with those mint green panels signifying her position, datapad and stylus in hand.
"Detective Mirage? Doctor Mitchell shall see you now."
The femme's optics blinked a few times. She was meant to see the quack at about 1900 standard Terran hours, and that was still another hour and a half away, surely?
Mirage checked her internal chronometer once, twice and then three times for good measure. She'd come into the room at 1700 hours, and had been sat there ever since. She'd been with Talonstrike for a full two hours.
The femme sighed in disbelief, looking down at her servos as they grasped at one of her partner's.
"Thank you, Nurse," she murmured quietly, as if she didn't want to disturb the sleeping mech, "Ah'll be over shortly."

Mirage smiled weakly at Talonstrike as she stood up, pressure building in her spark with embarrassment at what she was about to do. She moved closer and leant in close to her unconscious partner. Taking a gentle hold of his cheek, she kissed him. It was not a long, hard kiss reminiscent of those star- cross'd lovers, or the short, shy kiss of friends. It was somewhere in between.
She broke off, faceplate heating up slightly as she wiped her lip components on her palm. She lingered there for a few moments, her faceplate inches away from his, before leaning in close to his audio, whispering to him.
“Thank you, Talonstrike. For everything.”

And with that, she straightened up, turned, and silently followed the waiting nurse to see the psychologist.

Sweet.

I really need to write a new Moonhunter story.

I agree, you absolutely do.

I'm missing my semi-regular Moonhunter fix.

Better believe it. The Core's not quite the same without him.

Oh, and you, of course.

Though it might be a little dustier since you left. Not a lot of people have been around since.

Y'know it occurred to me... you could always try your hand at writing a short with Moonhunter, if you wanted.

Now you see, I don't have the confidence to pull him off, sadly. But I might give it a go sometime.

Yeahh...I still check in on the Core regularly. I think the site's pretty much dead... but I can't really feel upset about it any more. It's had a good run. I barely have time/energy to write in my novel, let alone RP any more. (If you've been following my ramblings on Facebook, you'd see what I mean.)

I appreciate the sentiment, though. I'm definitely not ready to retire ol' Moony.

Well, had I replied earlier I would have said much the same thing as you, and thanked you for the good times I'd had there. But if you didn't know already, OP and I are thinking about scrapping Janus and starting all over again with a new game.

But long story short, I don't think you should give up on the Core so soon. I respect you need to step away and focus on yourself right now, and I actively encourage it - nothing else matters until you get yourself sorted (because come on, if you can't be bothered to write your novel, then that's just not right. Get your mojo back, man!

Well, as the Great Scribe said, It Never Ends! I'm not ruling out my return to the Core someday, but right now I feel like Play-By-Posts are a distraction. I am getting some writing done, but often it's like juicing turnips for blood.

Janus was a failed experiment, I'm mature enough to admit that. I will be keeping an eye on your new game, and I wish you nothing but luck!

At least you're writing, which is better than a few months ago.

Thanks for the support, it means a lot coming from you. Might just have the confidence to pull this off, should enough people become interested.

You're welcome. You've been RPing long enough to know what you're doing. I had only been RPing for less than two years before I founded the Core.

Fair enough, but I've had a lot of inspiration to help me along the way. 4 years is still nothing compared to some of the people Rp'ing on the Core.

Mind you, OP's a lot like you in that respect. He's been RP'ing for two years as of the start of the month.

Yeah, and he's a lot younger than I was when I started. But he's impressed me in the short period of time I've been playing with him. He'll go far.

I can't agree more. He's done great so far, and I have high hopes for him in the future.

I get back from the last larp event of the year where I might have personally caused a little bit of a diplomatic mess between a magical being and the entire empire (it's a player base of around 1500 people as well xD Whoops!) to read this.  This more than makes up for the interesting weekend I just had.  Absolutely loved it!

Incase anyone's wondering I'm the player of Talonstrike over at the Core, and whilst he's regained consciousness Mirage and him have yet to speak with each other.  Granted the thread he just woke up in still hasn't finished yet (hoping Stormy might post on that soon).

We really need to get the two together again at some point Slippers!

Glad to hear you like it! I'm so pleased it made your weekend

As for the Core, I haven't been around a lot of late (Bad mod team member, Bad!), and that would probably stem from the fact I've been so incredibly distracted from the Core by various things of late, ranging from stress to do with my A-Levels exams, stress from my A-Level results, stress from not getting the grades, stress of going through Clearing, and the stress of actually getting a place at Uni and leaving everything (including a lovely girlfriend a week before I left) behind.

Put simply, I've been stressed. But now I'm settled at uni, I should be getting my mojo back shortly. So yes, we should get a thread for what is essentially our version of Peeta and Katniss up and running when I get back

Not to seem rude, but what about? Mirage is here, pouring her heart out to someone who probably isn't going to hear it, and kissing the sap on the lips.

Still, doesn't matter now - it's happened in my headcanon

Also, Hi
