Description
Al'len-by is one of the few Atlantean hybrids resulting from the union of the more human and merfolk populations. Because such pairings are a rarity their offspring are a minority in the city-state and are looked down by some as "inferior" or "freaks". While this attitude isn't wide spread, the ones who DO believe these things can be quite intense and generally do all they can to drive the hybrids out.
In Al'len-by's case, they succeeded as she felt the verbal, and in some cases physical, torment too much to bare and so she swam away. She travels the oceans for awhile, catching rides on barrages and cargo ships, until eventually she found herself inhabiting a lake by a small English town far removed from any of the major cities. At first the rumors of a monster in the lake put the towns people on edge but once they finally came face-to-face with the "monster" they found her to be quite pleasant. Unfortunately they had a bit of trouble pronouncing her name and so they started to call her "The Gillwoman" but that was quickly shortened to just "Gilly" once they became more friendly with her.
Now they consider her to be just another one of their neighbors, albeit a bit of an unusual one. Still they love and accept her as they do the other members of their small community which makes Gilly herself extremely happy. While at times she does long to return to Atlantis she's perfectly happy in a town that accepts her for who she is.
