SPOILERS FOR DW 6x08
I found Doctor Who 6x08 awesome.. but also kinda weird. The Doctor is lucky Mels/River showed up when she did... to distract from the fact that he completely failed to do what he said he would and find Melody.
I just like the idea of the Doctor stalling for time til that happened.And as seems to be the norm in my comics, the Ponds resort to violence to vent their emotions. And they take turns apparently.

This is what I think happened during the meeting about this episode.
Steven Moffat: βOkay folks, Iβve got the plot for the new episode all planned out. Itβs gonna have Melody growing up with her parents, the Doctor getting poisoned, a robot filled with tiny people β oh, and itβll be set in 1938 Berlinβ.
Matt Smith: βSo is there something in the script that talks about the Holocaust, or the Second World War?β
Steven Moffat: βNah, I donβt want to waste screen time on that when the episode is about River, not Naziβs. Weβll just have Rory punch Hitler and stick him in the cupboardβ.
Karen Gillan: ββ¦.Steven, I think you shouldβ-
Steven Moffat: βGreat! Glad youβre all on board. Iβm starving, letβs break for lunchβ.
All plot holes in episodes can be chalked up to the cast breaking for coffee...and then lunch...and then more coffee...lots of coffee. And tea. And scones.
