To each their own - If you can like both then that's fine, but I find James a very difficult character to like.

Oh yes, can you FEEL the sparks (or lasers) behind those eyes? XD I have to say, I didn't really have a problem with James until I realised in DH that no one had really said ANYTHING about his character and everyone had just assumed he was a great guy XD And I agree, it's hard not to like Snape when there's no much lovely artwork of him floating around here!

Woo! Snape-lovers unite to overcome the evil forces of JAMES. *glares*
Not a problem! It's really great

oh c'mon guys. James sacrificed himself for his family... no offense Snape lovers, I do like Snape I just think if he had handled the whole James Potter thing a little bit more maturely rather than stooping to Death Eater level and calling her a mudblood she might have still been his friend. Jo Rowling said James was an ass just cause he considered Severus competition. C'mon give poor James a break!

I know this is a REALLY old comment but I just had to say something. If snape has no excuse to act like a dick because he was bullied and almost killed and abused. Then james has no excuse to act like such a piece of shit
James was jealous so that gives him the right to bully, almost kill, torment, and almost strip someone? Oh and all because, and I quote, 'he exists'.
At least the death eaters treated him like a human instead of a piece of trash for the 'light' side.
Well I'm done. Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

James didn't nearly kill Snape... he saved him. Maybe you could believe Snape's reason about him not wanting to get into trouble, but Sirius was the one who nearly killed him. If you read the books again, you will notice (I quote)
"Snape never lost the oppurtunity to curse James". And you can't really say that James is Brawn and Snape is brains, because James and Sirius were "The cleverest students in the school", and if you don't believe that, read Prisoner of Azkaban again.
I know that James DID start it, but in the end, he can't have been bad; he sacrificed himself for his family and he made a 180 degree change for Lily.
Now I'm not saying I dislike Snape, he is also an awesome character, "without a doubt, the bravest man I ever knew" sums up a lot about him anyway.

He 'saved' him so his friend wouldn't get expelled. And notice all the characters that praise the marauders are all gryffindors? yes totally not biased at all (and dear old sluggy who just loves his rich, and beautiful students over the ugly, poor, and unappealing). So first they say that snape never lost the opurtunity to curse james then we see him sitting there doing nothing and them gaining upon him and almost stripping him for no reason. Then James himself says, when asked why he is bullying severus: 'it's because he exists if you know what I mean'. So which is it? is snape fighting back or is he getting targeted for no reason, it can't be both. Being clever does not equal being intelligent and they were not as smart as snape was. And the people we get our information from is, suprise, the bully and the do nothing prefect. Totally not biased. And Jk did say that the jealousey over lily was a factor of why he picked on snape.
The 'ceverest' students stole one of snapes spells that he invented and used it to bully others and almost strip snape. They didn't invent 6 spells and they didn't improve a text book (heavly) while juggling school work while being heavly bullied and sleeping in a house with psychopaths (avery, wilkes, bealtrix mc crazy). They did invent the maruaders map and become illegial animaguses which is impressive but it does not equal being a genius. It does however, point to them being skilled and powerful.
as for brawn notice how it was always 4 on 1 (or 3 on 1) yes such wonderful and brave students.
um no he didnt change for lily. He still cursed and hexed other students and snape behind her back. and pissed off petuna and vernon on pourpose (though I hardly blame him, but still)And its parental instinct for adults to potect their young. Was it brave? yes but did it prove to me that he changed? no. But as bad as James was he was no were near as bad as Sirius.
For the record I do suport James and lily because Lily and snape would have not worked out.
I agree it does. it totally sucks that he got shit on his whole life and died alone without a thankyou. I was so mad with JK I almost threw the book out my window.
And yes, I do think snape is flawed and I do believe i've got a journal entry explaning it. If you want I can try and find it and link you to it.

Hang on, why are we debating about this? We aren't going to convince each other at all! I personally prefer James to Snape, but I'm not saying Snape was bad in any way, my reasons are about him sacrificing himself for his family (not that Snape wouldn't have done the same). I'm not entirely sure about why he called Lily a mudblood and made friends with future death eaters, but I have a hunch it was to get back at James. Or something like that. Either way, James befriended a werewolf, a proper outcast and helped him in a way very, very few wizards would have done, and the four on one thing is just Snape's view. Remus, being so much more mature than Sirius or James, would not have attacked, and Peter, being a coward and a douchebag (I added the douchebag part) wouldn't have attacked, for fear of getting himself ripped in half by Snape. I personally think it was Snape's hatred of James and Sirius which dragged Remus and Peter into that blind hatred. As for James and Sirius, I'm sure that on at least some occasions, they would have gone 1 on 1. Holy shit I intended to tell you that we aren't going to convince each other and what did I just do? Oh well, maybe you could hold both James and Snape in equal regard, Snape for being as brave as it gets, pretty much, and James, for being an idiotic genius. (Oxymorons FTW!

Yeh sure, I'm new to Deviantart, so I'd like to know how to use this site lol. As for my liking James, it's mostly because I judged him for the MAN he was rather than the CHILD he was (until 7th year when he started to mature. Loads.) I wouldn't really judge someone while they're still developing emotionally (as well as physically), and theres my opinion. And how do I upload a picture to my gallery? My drgaon picture is my profile pic but I'd like to upload it as a piece of artwork.
See (or message) you whenever!
