Maria is a quiet person who seems almost shy at first. She just doesn't want to bother people unless necessary. She also prefers waiting for people to interact with her, but she's always glad to help when asked to.
It is quite difficult to upset her, but the people who have acknowledged her "furious form" all agree on one thing: she's scary and intimidating.
She's known to become a bit emotional when listening to someone's problems, as well as easily hugging others to make them feel better.

History
Because of her discreet and quiet personality, Maria's past seemed pretty mysterious to most of her fellow students for quite some time.
Some said her life was like Cinderella's, which would explain why she's so quiet. But no one had ever heard her talk about any stepsister, stepbrother or even stepmother.
Some thought she was living by herself, abandoned by her parents who were disappointed that she was so good at handiwork and not at something more "valuable".
No one dared asking her directly, in fear of upsetting her.
Until one day, someone did ask.
She smiled at them and started talking in a sooth voice.

Her parents weren't specially rich people when she was a child. Her father was a construction worker and her mother worked in a tissue factory. The three of them lived with Maria's grandmother, who attended to her grandchild most of the time. Which didn't mean Maria didn't receive love from her parents, far from it.
One day, the grandmother was using a sewing machine to fix some clothes for her son-in-law. Little Maria, 7 at the time, discreetly took some tissue and sewing utensils, and went back to her room. Later, her grandma called out to her, for it was time for their afternoon tea. Not seeing her grandchild coming, the old lady went to Maria's room. And to her surprise, her grandchild was sewing clothes for her dolls. The grandmother got a closer look to the small clothing: it was greatly sewed, there weren't that many errors. So the grandma let the child "play" and talked about it to the parents, who were baffled by the results.
That was when the mother remembered about a special academy for gifted students, and asked her daughter if she ever wanted to go there.

"And this is how I ended up here, some years later."

She's like a mom to younger students and even some older ones.
She's always sewing embroderies on some tissue between classes.
She hates jumpscares, but she literally gave one to all her classmates the day a cicada landed on her desk. Some still hear her shriek when they close their eyes...
Since the "cicada incident", some students discreetly act as bodyguards and shoo away insects before Maria sees them. No one scares their Mama. No one.
She speaks Italian fluently, but she only does so at home with her family.
She could straight-up say "I'm sorry but you are like a son/daughter to me" if asked out by someone she isn't interested in.
She doesn't understand how people can ask her out. She isn't special nor beautiful, right?
There are two ways to make her blush. You can either tell her "ti amo" or call her any pet name that implies her being beautiful or a romance between you and her. Works better when done by males at least around her age.
