Very nice pencil work here! Just recently getting back into colour pencils myself. I love them as a medium but I can only afford cheap ones at the moment.

Thank you. I started out with the cheapest I could find, because I also couldn't afford much more and I also wanted to be sure that I enjoyed and wanted to continue using colour pencils, before buying expensive pencils. Later I bought a large set of prisma colour pencils and I'm very happy with them.

Awesome. I am running a cheapskates challenge at the moment for people who are stuck using either student quality or supermarket art supplies. How did you cope with the cheap ones? I find the supermarket ones infuriating to work with compared to even my student quality art ones and even they are rubbish...

It wasn't that bad. I found a brand that was very cheap in a local store that I liked. It was actually a good brand that was just under student supply quality. The store was having a sale, so I could afford a bigger set. That said, I love my prismacolors and their quality. My previous set almost pales in comparison, but it took me a while to get them. So, I understand your frustration and I really got lucky.

Indeed you did get lucky! I have heard good things about prismacolors. Never get a chance to try them though...

Yeah, they're really great. I can really layer much more, then with my other set. I love the depth.

Awesome. Layering is one thing I have problems with. The cheap ones just won't go over each other no matter what...

Oh, I know. I had the same problem with layering the cheaper pencils. It just doesn't work. I have two drawings on my profile that are done with my cheaper set, pentel pencils. They turned out very light in colour, because I couldn't layer as much as I wanted. With my prisma's I don't have any trouble, though there is the fact that prisma's are softcore pencils and pentels are hardcore and as such harder to layer anyway.

Tell me about it. I can't even blend my colour pencils they are that bad (I wonder what they are based on, as there might be a solvent that will do the trick). I am going to have a go with a cheap set watercolour pencils tonight and see how that goes... Had them ages but never trusted myself to use them correctly...

I have used watercolour pencils as well, and I, well I don't hate them, but I definitely don't like working with them. Though, blending is better, the set I have, is just awkward, there is no other word for it. But good luck, I hope your experience with them is better then mine.

Arrgh, my set was also awkward as heck. Wouldn't lay down colour evenly and wouldn't blend well either. I shall have to get better paper and go nuts with the water. XD

Why do companies torture us so with uncooperative materials?

Thank you very much. I'm really happy with this work, I love his skintone and the shading. It was a lot of fun to make, it really was.
