Description "Would I freeze if I were to touch you?"
You asked me this one day.
"You seem so cold."
We were eleven, holding hands like one of us would slip away if we ever let go.
I ignored the fact that you were already touching me, and smiled gently at you.
"No."
Then you fell away like ice flakes, and I knew it was my fault.
My heart shattered like thin ice, and I cried.
They felt like snowflakes.

---

Last winter I got my first kiss, and I wanted so badly to tell you
that she didn't freeze, either.
But she did let go of my hand, which was something you never would do.

---

You left me staring at the ground.
I decided then that the shimmer in the snow was a little bit of you saying hello from the sky.
Was it cold up there, too?

---

I try, even now, to keep the memories of you closed in a white box in my heart.
But all it does is keep them frozen.

---

I think you were right about me being cold.
But it was even colder of you to leave me with nothing
but melted ice,
and paper snowflakes.
