Bio:
The Seafarers’ heaviest hitter, their go-to guy when brute force is needed, and a big man with a big heart, it’s a wonder that Cade Vanderbilt ever started out a criminal. But he HAS, and it’s the core reason why he can’t stop beating himself up so much; he certainly did his fair share of atrocities during his stint as the supervillain Ammonite. Time in prison has given him time to think, and now, traumatized by what he’s done and having shed his criminal ways, Cade seeks to turn his life around and give the hero career a try with the Seafarers.

Unable to speak and express himself yet determined to rebuild his reputation and atone for his crime, Cade’s journey to redemption isn’t made easy by the wariness and distrust he faces from the public and his teammate Maelstrom… ESPECIALLY Maelstrom. The mental gymnastics his teammate does to justify his irrational, foaming-at-the-mouth disdain for the former supervillain have driven Cade up the wall to the point of genuine hatred, and the one thing stopping him from tossing Maelstrom to the sharks is that he knows he’s being watched. Plus, Cade can understand where Maelstrom is coming from; for all he knows, most of the other Seafarers lost loved ones because of him. And if they have, he wouldn’t blame them for kicking him out of the team; it surprises him that they haven’t. What Cade doesn’t realize is that despite knowing what he’s done, the Seafarers have already found it in their hearts to forgive him, respect and admire the assets he provides them, and keep him around not only for his muscle, but out of an unspoken faith that one day, he can fully make the transition from supervillain to superhero.

Toolkit:
Cade Vanderbilt is among the first Paradigms, and he is a flawed one as a result; whatever gave him his powers also destroyed his larynx, rendering him completely mute. The defining power of Cade's Toolkit is his ability to summon gigantic sea monsters of varying sizes around himself; his normal human body is encased in a cocoon of flesh and bone within the brain of the creature, and he controls the monster from there. He has transformed into giant sea serpents, tentacled beasts, golems, sharks, mosasaurus, ammonites, crabs, and various other Lovecraftian sea creatures; in these forms, he gains the individual physiology and abilities of these beings alongside overwhelming strength and durability, and he can choose what he will become thanks to a device built into the gauntlet on his right arm. Once he has selected the sea monster he wants, a snap of the fingers triggers the transformation. However, the power is temporary and Cade cannot stay in his monster form for more than 3 hours, and can only transform twice a day.
