You know is truly a Lovecraftian eldritch horror? Santa Claus. "He knows when you sleep, he knows when you're awake. So please be good for goodness sake." A strange otherworldly entity that is not of this Earth, yet plays a ritualistic part in its design, forever knowing all about humanity, and is more than happy to enforce a strange and alien morality upon us, that we for some reason, are compelled to obey.
