Description Her characteristics from the original design are largely the same, but I paid more attention to color symbolism and meanings this time round using this website:

Body Color- Lilac

I chose lilac for her body because it symbolizes kindness, helpfulness, and compassion and is associated with being empathetic and optimistic, the main characteristics of Blake. Despite enjoying fighting and being the arena champion, I wanted her to appear approachable, so this lighter shade worked. Plus, to me lilac being a paler variation of purple, seems to look like a more weathered and worn purple. If purple represents royalty, then lilac to me evokes leadership gained through effort, hard work, and/or hardship, fitting with how Blake became in charge of her hometown by literally fighting off the tyrannical former leader.

Body and Wing highlight- Pink/Magenta

Pink was chosen because it is again associated with compassion and kindness, but also playfulness, femininity, love, romance, and intuition. Blake is a sucker for romance and she likes to fight for pure enjoyment, not to better herself or reach a goal. It’s play to her and she loves hearing the cheers of the crowd. When she’s not fighting or doing her duties as leader, she will indulge in romantic stories or shopping for and trying on clothes, even though she tends to be more comfortable without them, especially when fighting.

Horns, claws, and spikes- Burnt Sienna

Burnt Sienna was chosen for her horns, claws and spikes because it is associated with loyalty, adventurousness, excitement, and passion. It is also a more comforting color than red, which helps with her being approachable. In the past, she had the bad habit of seeing things superficially as well, another association the color has. She falls into that bad habit sometimes still, but has largely outgrown it.

Gem- Red

Red was chosen for the gem on her forehead because, like many of the other colors, it is a passionate color. It also represents courage, which she has in spades. Little frightens her, but even the things that do can’t stop her from acting, at least for long.

Eyes- Indigo

Indigo was chosen for her eyes primarily because of its association with the theatrical. In the fighting ring, Blake LOVES the cheers of the crowd and plays into it a lot. Sometimes her theatrics grate on her opponents, something Blake doesn’t really intend but she can’t help herself much of the time, sometimes even in serious fights. Indigo is also associated with responsibility. Blake may not have ever intended to become the leader of her town, but now that she will do everything she can to make sure things run smoothly and the permanent citizens have their needs met.

All in all, I wanted a design that was largely inviting and approachable befitting her kind and compassionate nature, but also that she will not stand for hurting people.
