Description The only problem with drawing ahead, like I've been doing, is that by the time I post the page, I've forgotten everything I wanted to say about it.

Those doors still have no handles. Also: Watch as that coffee table pops in and out of existence.

This little scene here goes a long ways, I think (I hope!), towards articulating my feelings towards Xavier. In so much that I think he's a sneaky, manipulative bastard. Completely necessary character, and god knows, without him, there'd be no foil for Magneto, but MAN he's a dick.

He's also really hard to draw, as his eyebrows are sort of perma-frozen in this deep frown of concentration. Expressions, therefor, are limited.

I spent more time on bubbling this week, and while I'm more happy with it than I was last week, I'm still not satisfied. Something to keep working on, then.

Xavier's hand in panel 3 looks... wonky. However, I sort of think it looks non-sucky in panel 4 so I guess that's something.

I had a LOT of difficulty drawing Wanda in that doorway. I had to shorten her legs 3 times, and then her feet were way to big, and her pose was... stiff and awkward at best. Eventually I decided to try drawing her on a separate sheet of paper and shooping the figure into the doorway. The pose is still a little bit stiff, and I fucked up the figure-right arm, but I'm still happier with it than I was in initial sketch stage.

I apologize in advance for the next page -_-;;

...I need to channel my mom here for a minute.

Wanda, close your robe!

Well, she wouldn't yell it, but after I got to a certain age she got on my case if I wasn't wearing a robe over my pajamas. Or at least a sweatshirt or pullover if I didn't have a robe (usually on vacations).

First of all, I really like Wanda's morning look in the final panel. She just looks so tired and like, "Hnh? Why is 'umbody sayin' mah name?" I really like that first panel too. The high shot is a welcomed relief from the close-ups on the previous page, and it looks good. Also continue to love you depictions of Evan. They are GREAT.

You're right about the hand in Panel 3. It IS wonky, too small, I believe. It's really hard to do a hand like that coming in when you can't really see the rest of the arm. It's like SOMEONE ELSE'S HAND. Really tricky. The inks on the background are also too strong for the panel. It makes the books look like they're coming forward too much. Thinner lines in the background will push it back.

Also, Evan's hand in the final panel is a little strange too. I think if the pointer finger was a little longer then it would be just fine.

A general note on line weight - thickest lines of ALL should be panel borders. Next should be whatever's in the foreground and then you make the line weight thinner the further you go back in the panel. This is not about how DARK the lines should be, but how THICK. All the lines should have the same DARKNESS just thickness should change.

I do enjoy that hand of the Prof's in the last panel there. I also think that his head would look a slight bit less awkward in that panel if we could see his ear. It's a nice page to lead up to the excitement of the next page though. The large bottom panel works really well. Lots of backgrounds are win. Rock.

Heheh I like evan's expression in the second panel, and xavier's all like blah blah blah... Great pages xD The mistakes you mention arn't usually that noticeable, But I know how things are much more glaringly obvious to the artist. ><

Xavier is a dick, huh?

At least he's not a manipulative asshole, like he was in one AU fic I once read. That was scary.

slaps you Stop complaining about your art, dammit! The comments you made for this page, and every other page before it, are one long gripe about your art, LOL. It looks fine, silly woman! Yeesh. LOL.

My own gripe aside, I love these. Thank you for posting them. I really look forward to each new installment, so keep them coming!

I'll stop complaining as soon as it lives up to my standards. Until then, I have to keep working. I also find that if I don't point out what I see is wrong, some helpful soul volunteers to do it anyway. I'm all for con-crit, but I prefer it when it's not something I can already see as "wrong" in my picture.

^_^ I'm trying for an Every Friday schedule, but it's unofficial. Thanks for reading

I hardly invited her. Nor did I particularly enjoy the "action" from her. "Slapping" is like ": P" in that it's something I react very negatively to. >.<

:snort: While I don't think that Xavier is a bastard, I don't think he's a saint either.

I think Wanda looks splendidly groggy.

XDDDDD I'm surprised that Xavier didn't notice her. Him being a mindreader and all.

Great page! Keeps getting better.

Have a question: Is Evan hard to draw like that? o x o

BlazeRocket In reply to TropicalFreckles [2009-07-16 23:21:53 +0000 UTC]

He claims to be all "non intrusive" and all that jazz. So either he IS, and he's keeping his brains to himself, or it's all an act, to make people THINK that he is.

It gets a little tricky around the neck, where all those plates over lap, and lining up the horns from one side of his head to the other, so they're no completely out of whack takes a bit of doing, but over all, not really ^_^

TropicalFreckles In reply to BlazeRocket [2009-07-16 23:23:53 +0000 UTC]

Yes. He is a tricky little bastard. XD

Ah, I see. I was curious, because whenever I see his character design from later on in the show, it makes me want to draw it, but, then it seems complicated at the same time for me. x . x

I'm parially making it up, partially working from screen shots, and partially working from early, EARLY character designs of Even.

Draw, draw! Nothing like a challenge to stretch yourself artistically

We has dialogue nao? Yays!

Hahaha, I have to agree with you assessment of Xavier. I hate him SO bad. Love the Wanda in the robe, though. She looks almost as surprised as Evan .

BlazeRocket In reply to ode2sokka [2009-07-16 23:25:44 +0000 UTC]

I don't think I hate him. After all, without him, there'd have been no X-men. He's one of those characters that inhabits a weird... grey area in my brain. Because he IS. a TOTAL dick. You know that sight Super Dickery? They could make one of those for Professor X. But on the other hand- sneaky and manipulative characters are part of what makes plot happen. Therefor- I I... appreciate the character, but dislike the guy? Something o.o

She is surprised! She was just walking past, and then got assaulted by yelling and stench! And it's not like she got a full nights sleep last night either.... she may be groggy XD

Ah, I understand perfectly. It's sort of like me and Hemingway's writings. I can appreciate what it did, and acknowledge it was important. I still don't have to like it.

Poor Wanda.

GOD yes. I feel the SAME way about Hemingway. Uncle Tom's Cabin, too. Culturally signifigant? Yes. Literally important? Very. Enjoyable read? Noooooot so much.

Am I at work without spellcheck? You betcha.

Finally, someone that understands! My parents seem to think that, since I'm an English Major, I should just enjoy reading anything and everything. >_> It's obnoxious, actually.
