German shepherds, are they one of the few

I don't believe so, but they can at least see better than humans at night xD And in the story Bruno feels his job is to protect his humans at all costs, even if that means not sleeping for days in order to keep them safe.
(Though, I'm pretty sure GSD's don't have the greatest night vision as they are herding dogs, and shepherds were bred to do their job during the day, you know, herd the animals, so I don't think they're as adapted to night vision as some other breeds)

It's his choice - he's lost everything except for Andrew and his few other people, and he can't lose them. It's a bit of an unhealthy obsession but he's brave and noble, and he feels kinda useless otherwise because he can't defend himself and his owners against the diseased - he can't bite them, or he'll get infected. I guess that's how he'll go down - defending the people he loves.
before all of this he was actually a pretty normal dog. Obsessed with his work as a cop dog, though - but I guess that's what led him to be such a loyal and brave guardian. Ahh, can you tell I love this character? He's been a part of me since 2nd grade, that's a longgg time. I kinda dropped him last year with all the stuff I was going through but now I have pickedh im back up and I am so happy!!

Shoot, I feel bad about his sleep deprivation and
inability to defend physically. It amazes me how
long he's been around in your head, I can hardly
remember things from grades 1 - 5. Anyway,
keep up the enthusiasm any way you can, it's
good to hear the block is gone.
