This is pretty different than anything else you've seen in my gallery?? YES IT IS. I've never illustrated a classic dragon before! And it was really super fun, I loved it. This creature is called a Glass Dragon and she (I dub it a she, but haven't been told one way or another) is from Destined Legends .

Destined Legends has nine days left to go on its kickstarter as I write this. Today it hit its first stretch goal beyond basic funding. That's really super exciting! Please go check out the kickstarter if you haven't seen it yet. If the kickstarter goes another 5000$ over (I think it might actually do that! O_O) We reach stretch goal 17500 at which I get to do another giant ridiculous painting of unreasonably awesome subject matter. In edition to 20 other cards that are in the standard battle set that I'm already doing. TOTALLY EXCITED. GONNA PAINT SOME SWORDS, SOME LADIES, A CERBERUS, AND OTHER STUFF. So yeah please go see the kickstarter I'm nerd flailing over it.

For the Glass Dragon, a special card of extraordinary usefulness and destruction, there were only a few presets. There was a color scheme that looked something like a winter sunset and a basic description that is best summarized as "SUPER AWESOME, MAKES EVERYONE CRY ONCE PLAYED." This resulting design was my imagining of a northern dragon. One that is capable of flight, but conducts most of her hunting under the sea. Her coloring is made to blend with the sea foam and slide unnoticed along glacier walls. She prefers to eat beluga, but has been observed risking confrontation with fishing boats which have a tendency to drop tasty meat blobs wrapped in chewy cloth into the water when bumped violently. She doesn't enjoy carrion, her preference is for food that is raw, wriggling, and warm bodied. Though fish can be torched with fire to produce a similar result, if absolutely necessary. The Glass Dragon normally considers the numerous coastlines of Canada's distant islands to be her territory, but when she has a special taste for meat blobs on boats, she sinks deep under the stormy surface of the water and makes her way south, sometimes going as far as Oregon's rocky coast where the meat blobs are more numerous and sea lions are also common. The Glass Dragon's only hazards are orca, who hunt in pods and tend to be bitey and territorial towards her. On confrontational occasions, the Glass Dragon has been known to glide out of the water on her wings and lay just out of reach of the sea locked orca. The two drastically different predators might be tempted to fight it out, but neither of them are small enough for the others' easy consumption. Risking injury for such unenjoyably edible prey then seems useless.

Or so go my imaginings of a sleek, pale dragon with the coloring of a winter sunset.

This is gorgeous! You continue to inspire me with your beautiful watercolor paintings. I hope you have this available as a print next year at Otakon, I will definitely buy a large print of this.

ah, heh ... well you can hope, but being that Otakon is incredibly difficult to get into, I can't promise anything at all even though I live in Baltimore now. Your surest way to acquire a poster of this would be to contact Ali, creator of Destined Legends, and he could definitely send out a poster! In fact it'd be most helpful, funding the game and all.

Okay, I'll see what I can do to get a poster, then! But I sincerely hope you can do Otakon again. I really enjoyed speaking with you the last two years. You have been very inspiring for me and my artwork. Both posters I bought from you before are hanging up on my wall behind my computer

Oh wow, you've come and seen me the past two years at Otakon? I won't claim that Ota is anything more than a confusing, tired blur for me. I think I was in a building, there might have been people, there was definitely some art. That's all I remember. @__@

It's a really big complement to me that my work has inspired you. I think there are so many better artists you should go like spend your effort on liking. >_> But still. I'll take the complement.

Yup, I have come to visit your stand AND bought artwork from you each year at Otakon. And I really don't buy that much artwork! And each time, you told me the exact same thing...to find "other, better artists." Luckily for you, I'm a bad listener, hehe

Wow, this is absolutely gorgeous! I'm not really a fan of card games, but you have definitely convinced me to check out the kickstarter, if only to fund further images like this. Your style is perfect for such a dynamic image. I'm having trouble believing this is your first traditional dragon, this is really that good. Random slightly related question... Since this is specifically for Destined Legends, does that mean you will not be making this available as a print? I completely understand if you won't/can't, but I would be very interested in a larger print of this image, if one was made available, especially if you find a printer with as good of quality as whoever you were going through, before. I bought a few prints from you at Otakon, this year, and I am still pleasantly surprised at how -nice- they are. Also, no wonder you keep running out of blue paint. Between this and Door, maybe you should start buying stock in the stuff. ^_^

I'd say if you definitely want a print of it, you should probably contact Ali. You can contact him through kickstarter, or you could email him ashowkati at gmail I'm sure he'd be willing to sell you a print! And I've seen other posters he's printed, they've been well done.

It's always really uncertain if I'll be at Otakon, if I'll have this print, too many ifs. 8(

Thanks! I'll email him and ask. I hope things work out, for you. It was really nice to get to meet you, at Otakon. There are a lot of conventions in an around that area, though, so you have a lot to choose from that might even be cheaper to register for. ^_^

Thanks very much! I really strive for something that looks uniquely mine, but also feel like what is "mine" is too far off what is common or popular. :/ So uuuh I'm glad when people complement the style.
