Have you tried getting an older version??
I've never used Sai so I'm not sure about the brushes available. But you want one that's around halfway between an airbrush and the flat pen tool (create a custom brush? can you even do that on Sai?))
I literally just clean up my sketches as-well. It's easier for me to keep the motion and the feeling I managed to capture in the sketch. Though your lineart is a lot more refined than mine so the style might not suit your style of drawing ;w;'

I dunno, ur lines are kinda more...free? mines are always Β so weird ( but yeah, u can create new customs brush, but they kind don't change that much, it just change some littles things )Β

Tutorial- Pose and Body
Β - I'll do pose sketches like this, clean it and draw on itΒ (all on one layer), adding all the characters features, until I get to the final lines.
I don't use a lineart layer. It makes all my characters too stiff.
My lineart is never clean (I can't be asked to zoom in and erase all the fly aways ;w;')
I also doodle lines (a lot with waffle). Make cloths poofier. Make the sleeves heavier. I sorta add and erase till I'm happy with them.
Also space and empty space stuff. Honestly there is so much now I think about it QvQ
The best thing to do is to work on your lines until you're happy with them.
(Oh that sucks. Can you download custom brushes off the inter webs?)

You could try a video one? Just follow what their doing on screen over what they're talking about.
