Description Bright rays of sunshine beat senselessly down, drying the earth to a dusty crust. Frostfur felt hot and heavy under the unforgiving heat. She stretched out in the shadows of the camp but it did little to cool her. Trying to ignore the uncomfortable temperature, the she-cat closed her dark blue eyes, wishing for sleep to come.
“Look what I caught!” A high-pitched voice slashed through the quiet air and Frostfur hissed, sitting up and glaring at whoever was disrupting the peace.
A small tabby was rushing across the camp. He skidded to a halt near the center and proudly raised his head as high as it would go so that any onlookers would have no trouble seeing what he was carrying. In his mouth was a small sparrow, limp and lifeless.
“Hey! Quit showing off, stupid!” A dusky brown she-cat followed the tom, her hiss echoing across the camp. The she-cat’s yellow eyes were narrowed in anger and her long tail swished irritably back and forth as she stomped up the tabby. “If you’d just shut up for once in your life I would’ve been able to catch that mouse back there! But no! You had to go and boast about that pathetic… thing!”
“I’m sorry, Mousepaw.” The tom replied through his catch . He shrugged his small shoulders, not looking bothered about being scolded. “I didn’t know you were trying to catch it.”
Mousepaw’s eyes lit with a new fire. “What did you think I was doing! Crawling around it the dirt for fun?”
“Oh be quiet you two.” A sleek blue-gray she-cat emerged from the tunnel that was the entrance to the camp with a sandy-gray tom at her heels. Her blue eyes were sparkling but they were tinged with annoyance. “You’re going to scare every piece of prey from here to highstones. Mousepaw, it’s alright that you didn’t catch anything, it was a border patrol. Runningpaw, you need to learn some humility, a warrior does not boast about every single piece of prey they catch.”
“I remember a young she-cat who used to boast about the prey she caught.” The tom purred with amusement. Bluefur turned and narrowed her eyes at the tom but he went on before she could say anything, “Why don’t you take that to the elders, Runningpaw.”
Mousepaw snorted, giving her brother one last heated glare before turning and stalking to the apprentices den. Runningpaw blinked, unfazed by her attitude, and looked around the camp.
Frostfur stiffened slightly when she saw his eyes land on her. Hot blue eyes glared at the young tom as he bounced cheerfully over to the white she-cat, the bird in his mouth swishing through the air with his steps.
“Here you go Frostfur.” The small tom mewed, dropping the sparrow to his paws. His eyes were alight with pride and his tail swayed high in the air.
“Thrushpelt said to give that to the elders.” The pretty white she-cat snapped, flattening her ears. Apprentices had always gotten on her nerves but Runningpaw had always gotten under her fur for some reason. He was just too… cheerful all the time!
The tabby apprentice tilted his head slightly. “But I thought you were an elder…” He trailed off, looking confused.
Frostfur bristled, “I am not an elder!” She hissed, “I’m a warrior! A young warrior!’
“Really? You seem so old to me. Not like Bluefur, she’s great!”
“I’m younger than Bluefur!” Frostfur snarled, thrashing her tail in anger. This cheeky apprentice really got on her nerves.
“Ah, don’t be grumpy.” The tom replied, blinking sweetly up at the warrior. “I bet you’re just jealous because the deputy’s my mentor.”
“Bluefur was my mentor too!”
“That’s cool but was she deputy back then?”
“No, I was her first apprentice. But that-”
“Oh,” Runningpaw shrugged. “Then it doesn’t count. You just had a regular warrior for a mentor. I have a deputy and since Sunstar isn’t training anyone I have the best mentor in the Clan. She teaches me everything. Watch this.”
Before Frostfur could even open her mouth to say anything the young tom flicked his paw out, successfully pinning her lashing tail to the ground. The she-cat leaped to her paws and whipped her tail away from the disrespectful apprentice.
“Don’t touch me! My tail isn’t a mouse you know!”
Her words flew right over his head though as he opened his mouth wide is a large yawn. His teeth flashed white against the dark pink of his mouth.
“Well it was nice talking to you,” he murmured. A turned around and began padding slowly to the apprentices’ den, leaving the small sparrow at Frostfur’s paws.
The white she-cat snorted at his retreating back before giving the limp bird a reproachful sniff. It was still a little warm. Sighing the warrior settled down and sunk her teeth into the soft, succulent flesh of the sparrow.

A while back I drew a little series of pictures about RunningxFrost from their first meeting to Runningwind meeting Frostfur in StarClan. I never got around to posting them though cause I kept telling myself not to put any up till I had all of them finnished. Well I still have finnished all of them (soooo lazy, I don't wanna shade ) but I haven't put anything up in like forever so I decided to at least put this piece up.
