The language thing never bothers me. I love subtitled movies partly because they are almost always different from the confined styles and storylines that hollywood repeats ad nauseum but also I think because I enjoy reading. Off the top of my head Black Book is the only Dutch movie that comes to mind and I think that movie featured 4 if not 5 languages. I've seen it a few times and love it, great story, lots of twists and turns, definitely not hollywood.

hm I can't really watch dubbed movies, it absolutely annoys me. I always watch stuff if I can comprehend the language without anything at all, or with subtitles.
absolutely, I like the dark twist the movie has.

Dubbed is so yuck. It's horrible when the voices and mouths and facial expressions don't sync. Black Book is weird because it's not that different but it still is. It's not like Pan's Labyrynth or Downfall or Kontrol or Hero or Crouching Tiger but it still holds the mind but it never quite slips into the Hollywood thing.

I must admit I haven't watched a dubbed movie in years. It's just not the same. Is it something that Dutch tv or cinema does regularly?

Seven Samurai is very old. It's a classic. It was remade in America as The Magnificent Seven which became a cult classic also but the original is best.
I preferred the extended tv version of Das Boot but because it gave more time to everything, the tension was more, one got more of a sense of the confines the crew existed in. I would have cracked up. There's no way I could live for weeks in one of those things. I love also the way it put me in touch with the Germans as people. Too many Second World War movies are like Germans = bad and Allies= good and there is a case for that considering the atrocities that were committed and the ideologies involved but most Germans weren't aware of the atrocities or that ideological. The thing I love about Downfall is the way you see Hitler and his cohorts on one level as very ordinary people but on another as people twisted by ideology, I think extremes of belief does that, it messes up people's heads.

12 angry men is a classic, in Fairness the USA has made some very, very good movies but the run of the mill American movie is very cliched. eat, pray and love, I haven't heard of but I shall look it up.
